Odd blog behaviour – 'disappearing' posts
-
Hi! I’m **really** new to blogging and am hoping someone would be so kind as to help me out. I’ve tried looking in the forums for something similar but with no luck. BTW, I find it odd that when I search the forums I only get 15 results and otherwise am suggested to Google the answer. :)
I created my blog (http://mymeanderingroots.wordpress.com/) on Sunday night using the Chateau theme. When I go to my blog without logging in, all is fine. I see two posts on my blog page. When I leave the page to go to another page and then return to the blog page, I no longer see the two posts. Instead, I see the text, ‘This is the page where users will find your site’s blog.’ I’ve tested on two computers (with IE11 and Firefox 46) and my Ipad (Safari) and the behaviour is the same on all three. I’ve looked through my blog settings but I cannot see what I might be missing.
Thanks in advance for any and all help / advise! :)

This is a one or the other situation. You have two choices on any blog
(1) All posts on the front page.
(2) A static front page http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/ and all posts on a different page.By default the front page of your blog displays all published posts (not pages) in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top. That is for the convenience of your returning visitors, who come to read your latest post, and who are not likely to be happy with being compelled to click through the same static page with the same blah, blah, blah on it every time they visit the blog looking for the latest post.
However, if you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, then you can create a static front page called for example “Welcome” for your site and a “Blog” page for posts. Create your pages first
Front page:
Posts page:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/After you do that you go to > Dashboard > Settings > Reading and make the designation change and click “save changes”.

Hi, timethief. Thanks so much for your prompt reply! I’m sorry it’s taken so long for me to get back to you.
I think I see my issue (or one of them (?)). I deleted the “Home” page. It seemed redundant if I have a separate page called Blog. I’ve just ‘undone’ that. So, I now have Home, Blog, About, and Contact.
From the dashboard, I select Themes –> Customize and for “Static Front Page I select “Your latest posts.” With this option, I do indeed see both posts on my Home page but there is nothing on the Blog page, which seems somewhat pointless. :) Is this normal behaviour? Should I simply re-name that page “Blog” and delete the existing blog page?
Thanks again!

Hi Chris, a separate “blog” page is helpful if your front page is static. If you don’t intend to have a static front page, you can just delete the blog page and its link in your menu. I hope that helps.
