Odd influx of visitors on stats (possible bot?)
-
Hello, I use Feedjit and Statcounter metrics in addition to the wordpress.com stats. A while ago, I noticed that my traffic according to WP had doubled, but Feedjit and Statcounter had not recorded such hits. I checked again now and the total has doubled again, once again with WP being the only meter recording it. There’s no specific post — it’s ranging far back in my archives — and no specific referral. Is this a bot or crawler that WP hasn’t filtered out?

Hi there!
You can see all of the pages on your site that your visitors are landing on here:
Nothing seems particularly suspicious. I’m not really sure how Feedjit or Statcounter work, but it sounds like there may be some confusion about view and visitors.
A single visitor can cause several views to be counted by visiting multiple pages on your site. So this may be the source of some of the discrepancy since many simple stat counters only count unique visitors to your site.
Let me know if you have any more questions!

Well, by the time you had a look at the site, the issue had fairly subsided, but there was a time where the site was recording 20+ pageviews an hour, with no referrer, events not recorded anywhere else. I think something was up then.
