Odd menu text & column width expansion

    On my blog curiousbrowneyes.wordpress.com, the text in the menu on the left side is oddly blurry and strangely colored in certain areas. I want it to have the clean white text (it looks clean before the background image loads, when the menu is still black when the page is loading). Did a weird glitch happen with this blog?

    Also, I want to expand the column/image widths in each post (not on the main page). How do I do that in CSS? I tried changing the maximum image size (there’s a box that gives that option in the CSS tab) but that did nothing. This is for the Oslo theme.
