Odd problems – unwanted double clicks – unwanted highlighting
-
This is not a WordPress-problem – at least I don’t think so – but my pc started to behave strangely a few weeks back.
When I write and try to put the cursor in the middle of a text where I want to correct something, the word is automatically highlighted – or block marked as we say in Denmark. If I do not observe it in time, the word gets deleted when I write. I have had hole sections of text disappearing like that. It seems to block mark whatever it sees fit.
The when I actually do want to block mark – highlight – a piece of text, it refuses. I can do it over and over 3 – 4 – 5 times before the d*mn thing will accept my command. That makes copy/paste very irritating.
The same for a drop down menu. I can click 3 – 5 times before it stays down so that I can choose an option (command).
I also experience unwanted double clicks.
I Googled this problem and found, that people had these exact problems i 2000 in IE 5.5 (or point something). But that was a very long time ago and I just upgraded my 7 point something on microsoft’s home page. That did not help. Besides my pc worked perfectly until recently.
Would anyone in here happen to know what is going on? Or have the same experience? I am heavily barricaded behind a lot of anti-virus-programs and stuff so it should not be that. I did of cause run all of them.
I really would appreciate some suggestions….

I have a Conduit toolbar under suspicion. They came up with a new search feature recently..

Does it do it in all programs? Do you have another mouse you can try? I had a mouse sometime back that was acting similar to what you describe and when I switched the problem went away.
-
No I do not have an extra mouse but it is worth a try. Only it worked fine before – it is the same mouse and it is relatively new. But they do of cause develop malfunctions as time goes by…
Thank you for the suggestion. I should have a spare mouse in the house anyway so I will follow the advise and see what happens.

I have also suffered from “a bad mouse” but I do have some other questions to ask.
(1) Has your operating system been updated recently?
Yes.
(2) Which broswer(s) are you using?
(3)Have you had a update of your browser(s) recently?
Does this happen when you are using only one browser or with others too? (which one(s) please)
(4) Have your virus program and/or adblocking, security, etc. programs been recently updated?
(5) Do you want to post those specifics here in case they are useful to staff? -

{waving at thesacredpath} you were so lost in thought that you forgot a “t” above … lol ;)

{waving back at tt}
hehehe – ain’t I a mess? And I get paid to edit books and stuff – and they keep coming back!

I haven’t even thought of trying an other browser. I will do that instantly.
I use Internet Explorer and all my programmes have been updated recently. I went over the hole lot of them to try to nail the error. I actually did it again as the very last thing right before I started this thread. With a restart and all. And no result. :-(
I do not dare to hope for staff to get into this. It already borders on what one can use the Forum for, doesn’t it? :-D)))
I remember two more things: if I want to click a link I sometimes have to click it 3 times or more to get a reaction. Same pattern as in the thread starter post.
Sometimes when I need a drop down menu and choose a command on it, the pc does not respond to the command I gave it. Instead it reacts to what is right under the command, I went for. If it is a link, it opens it.
It is crazy – ignoring the drop down menu…

Unfortunately the error followed the Opera browser as well….
I have tried to uninstall all virus programs and ALL related stuff – AGV, Avira AntiVir, HiJackThis, Rootchk, Combofix, CCleaner, AdAware and others. It made no difference so I installed them again.
I do of cause not run any them at the same time, when I use them. They can get in conflict.
That never happened to me, though.
What is running on a schedule is Microsoft AntiSpyware, Windows Defender and Norton. I did not try to uninstall any of those…

Correction: Microsoft AntiSpyware is not running. It died a long time ago. :-)
Some of the programs mentioned are local brews – they are Scandinavian.

If you’re adventurous, you can download a Linux Live CD (I’d recommend Ubuntu) and burn it. Pop it in your CD drive and reboot (you might have to check in your BIOS that you can boot from CD). If your problems follow you, then it’s hardware. If they don’t, then it’s something in Windows.
