# of Views per Post – Weekly/Monthly/Yearly/All Time
-
I cannot seem to find information on how to see a tally of the # of views per post. (Also looked in forums but site that asked didn’t seem to be a WP site – or it was resolved offline.)
Looking for Weekly/Monthly/Yearly/All Time.
I somewhat can tell daily – but to add up manually seems tedious. I figure that there is an easier way, but I’m just not seeing it.
Help is appreciated. Site is theappreciationfactor.wordpress.com
Thank you!The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

At the top of your stats page there are toggles for Days, Weeks, Months, and Years:
Is that what you’re looking for?
-
Shawna,
No, not exactly. I’d like to be able to see what posts were read – not the # of views total by days, weeks, months – which is what those stats show.Lately I’m getting “Home page/Archives” as a view. (This is likely a separate issue.) I’d like to see what posts are getting read. Home page doesn’t really tell me that.
Is there a stat for say how may views my “Personal Thank you Notes” post received (It was just published, but trying to provide a better example.
Hope this clarifies my inquirey.
-
Sure! So, under the ‘Posts & Pages’ module is the list of all of the specific posts and pages that were viewed. If all of your views are on the “Home page/Archives” this means that everyone who viewed your site just viewed this specific page:
https://theappreciationfactor.wordpress.com/
We can’t track what they read on that page past that information. If you’d like to get more granular information about people reading specific posts, you should add some Read More tags to your posts. This will truncate the amount of text from your post is displayed on the front page and prompt readers to click through to the individual post page to read the rest of your post:

Does that clarify things? Let me know how I can help!

Hi,
I have been able to see by “day” what posts were read (your further explanation was helpful), however is their a “master” for say by Week, Month and Year.
For examples. For this week – Personal Thank you Notes was read 10 times. For the Month 22 times and for the year 25.That’s what I’m looking for. Will the read more do that? (I did read the link and it was more about showing how this application works.)
Additionally if I use the “read more” will it create an issue with someone who uses the rss feed to view my post?
I know I’ve added more questions, but haven’t quite solved heard if WP tallies what I’m looking for. Thanks for your continued assistance!

That’s what I’m looking for. Will the read more do that?Yep! Once the person has to click through to the actual post to read the whole thing, we can track that they viewed that individual post.
Additionally if I use the “read more” will it create an issue with someone who uses the rss feed to view my post?
Using the read more tags will truncate your RSS feeds in the same way. Your readers will have to click through to your site to read the post, which we can then track. We can’t track how often your post is viewed through an RSS reader other than our own Reader at the WordPress.com home page.
I know I’ve added more questions, but haven’t quite solved heard if WP tallies what I’m looking for.
No worries! Ask away. :)
I think this will do what you want, but if my answers make it sound like it doesn’t just let me know.

Hmmm. still not there. SORRY. Perhaps a rephrase.
Where do I locate a list of the # of times a specific post has been read: Weekly, Monthly, Yearly. I would settle for “total” that’s really what I’m after.
I’d like to see what posts are most popular (rank).
The read more is info is still helpful (just that it cover the new ask. Question above is the one I’ve been trying to determine.)
Thanks for your patience and understanding. -

Basically, you’re looking in the right place. But since your entire post displays on the front page, we have no way of tracking what was ‘read’ when a person was on that page. Just that they were there.
Adding the read more tags would make the user click through to the page where the individual post is displayed. Which means we can track that as a view for that individual post. This will give you more accurate information about the popularity of your individual posts and pages.
To explain it another way, when I visit your home page here:
http://theappreciationfactor.wordpress.com/
You’ll get a ‘view’ on the page listed as “Home Page/Archives”. While I’m there I can read basically any of your posts, but the computer and server don’t know what I’m reading. So we can’t increase the count for views on any of your posts.
But if I go to this specific post:
Then you’ll get a ‘view’ on “Tips on Writing a Memorable Personal Thank You Note” and you’ll have better information about what posts were most popular and eye catching.
Does that clarify things?
(Sidenote. Definitely going to be reading that article. I am terrible at thank you cards; they always feel so phony.)

At the top of your stats page there are toggles for Days, Weeks, Months, and Years:
Totally useless – work harder – more clicks for a way less feel for how the traffic is working – brain dead stats now
I now need to keep a special set of spread sheets to help me understand trends on my site – GREAT job someone

Shawn –
I am now in sync with what you are saying. (sorry for the delay – was sidelined by the Northeast snow storm). This isn’t great – if they go to other posts, but it only shows the home page. But understand it’s what’s available.Q: I did learn about a software that tracks by post – you add HTML link in it – it’s called WebBeak. Can I use that if you’re hosting my site? (i.e.., I use .wordpress.com at the end of my URL.)
And hope my tips help. It really is all in thinking about how the gift/help etc.. made you feel and expressing “that” or think about what you might want to read if you’d given the gift/help. Take a look for that book too. I really learned a great deal. (Your library may have it too if you don’t want to buy it.) Thanks for the compliment.
Let me know about WebBeak
THANKS! -
Oof! I have a bunch of friends over there. I hope you weathered it well. :)
It looks like WebBeak would work with your posts if that’s the route you want to go. Although, I think I’m maybe not explaining how our stats work very well, because I’m still pretty sure that our stats would do what you want.
I’m having trouble thinking of another way to explain it right now. So maybe WebBeak is exactly what you want! I’ll circle back around if I come up with a better way to explain how our post-related stats work. :)

Sounds good. I’ll see if I can “download” WebBeak or at least get the link to put in my HTML so that I can look in to this.
Storm – streets are finally clearing – tho’ another storm tomorrow – which is VERY typical in New England… one after another. It’s FUN! (not). At least we haven’t had much snow yet. Feb is usually the snowiest so we’ll see.
If you think of the other way – let me know. I’m still subscribed to this forum discussion.

Sound great! :)
Oh, I remember the snow. I was in Massachusetts for the Halloween storm in 2012. They evacuated my college because we lost power for so long. Good luck! Fingers crossed for no downed power lines!
