Offensive Spam – re. UK ISP blocking?

NB> Haven’t seen what I submitted around midday in the listing so perhaps it got lost, or maybe the ‘submit’ button didn’t work? Here’s what I sent.:

I have two comments in my Spam folder whose Authors are shown in Chinese script. They are very supportive of my posts BUT close in suggesting I visit their sites. As most comments are from regular readers I unwittingly clicked one link and found it was pornographic!!

(I came upon them accidentally as nothing had been flagged for my moderation. My latest reply to a comment had been accidentally deleted so I went hunting to restore it and found that defiling junk.)

I couldn’t load a suitable screenshot of my spam folder into media so here’s both authors’ details in case you need to action (I’ve deleted them):
    av8dvd.com 219.229.36.199
    bd25.info/article_info.php?articles_id=4 115.225.174.24

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

We are all getting the spam you describe. Aksimet is a learning engine. If you get spam that slips by Akismet then mark it as spam (do not delete it) and over time Akismet will learn it’s spam.

On the spam that Akismet catches on it takes only seconds to click “empty spam” and you don’t even have to click “empty spam” if you don’t want to. Akismet will maintain comments it has caught for 30 days from the time they were received, and then it will delete the comment automatically.

    As auxclass says:
You can use the Bulk Edit function (check boxes on each comment) to delete less than all the spam comments or to Un-spam more than one comment at a time. Check the box at the comment then choose the proper bulk edit command.

Akismet is very accurate so trust Akismet. Set up comment moderation if you have not already done so because allowing anonymous commenting is like putting out the welcome mat for spammers.

This page > Settings > Discussion is where you set up defaults for comments. http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/

    Comment moderation http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/#comment-moderation

_Users must be registered and logged in to comment

The vast and overwhelming majority of all so-called information on the internet is spam. Over 80% of all so-called comments submitted to .wordpress.com blogs every day are spam. Spam comes in waves. There are human beings who get paid to post spam. There are robotic programs that post spam.

There is no such thing as eliminating all spam but Akismet works very well. For more information please take the time to read “5 things every blogger should know about spam” on this page Akismet: How it works http://akismet.com/how/

Thank you for your prompt, helpful reply. Indeed I’d already set up comment moderation but it was good to review and find out about Askimet, so I appreciate your points.

In fact, on 2nd thoughts I decided not to delete that spam. I wanted to flag it in case it had escaped my ISP TalkTalk’s blocking, which has been a major issue on this forum. Am pleased to learn it’s a relatively ‘normal’ matter. So you may consider this resolved and accept my thanks.

Am a tad unsure how Askimet stats are to be fully understood because my readout looks as though its missed most (98%)! This is probably because my posts often link into previous material but I move their trackbacks into Spam rather than have them clutter Recent Comments widget on my Home Page. Once they’re a few months old I give them the ok and they don’t appear in Recent Comments.

Don’t suppose there’s any way of excluding internal trackbacks from that widget?
