Offline Blog Editors
-
Well, after losing hours of work by accidentally deleting a page I’ve decided to work with an offline blog editor. Which one though? I am quite the novice with code and require something very simple. Suggestions, please? I’ve read thru a few descriptions online, however as we all know it’s not always as easy as they describe. I trust this forum to provide the best info in town! Thanks.

What kind of computer do you have?
Timethief recommended Blogdesk to me, and I love it. Ecto works on Macs, but it’s not free.

I’m on a PC with Windows XP. Mozilla/Firefox is my browser. (this is the 2nd time I replied to your question. when i hit send post it took me to a sign in page?!?!?!?!?)

I read somewhere that Zoho’s editor works for Mac but I can’t even find the editor to check this information. This is the main link: http://www.zoho.com/

Since this Mac question pops up ever so often because Mac users need a solution – here is a copy of Zoho’s FAQ about it:
4. Can I use Zoho Writer on Mac, Vista, Linux (all flavours) & other OSes?
As Zoho services work on a web browser, they are OS independent and should work on all operating systems including mac & vista. Please do remember that zoho writer works best on Firefox 2.0+ and Internet Explorer 6,7 browser versions. So you can use any of the above browsers in any OS for accessing zoho writer.

Thanks! One more question, please. I have more than one blog and I’ve posted everything directly thru WP…no offline editor. Since it has become painfully apparent that pages can not be backed up thru exporting, is there a way to copy the pages of my blogs to Blogdesk? Of course I could do something page by page manually….I’m looking for something a little more elegant……if it exists.
In appreciation for your time…………………..

One other trick is to have a mirror site on a competing blog system such as Blogger, Typepad or Tumblr. You can post simultaneously from an editor. You keep your mirror site closed to the public unless something happens. If a disaster strikes you just open the mirror site with a single click and you’re back in business again.

Great idea! Now if I can just figure out an easy way to remember the where/when of everything……………………………………

I think WordPress should make an offline editor for all of us. One that looks exactly like our dashboards. WP have the programs, the features, the graphics, the makeup and everything in a perfect and super condition already. It should be relatively easy to design a feature that can export our writings to a WP blog?

Windows Live Writer (free) is a nice desktop blogging client as well. I love the photoeditor of BlogDesk!

With wordpress’ (and TinyMCE’s) track record with online editors I would rather rely on a third party myself.
