oh man, how can I get a ticker into a widget? or something!

I have read a few topics about this issue in the forums and I’m afraid I just don’t get it. I am disappointed to find out that I cannot put any fun tickers into my blog, and the boring one from ticker factory won’t go into a widget, or a post (although I may be doing it wrong). Here is the code from the one I really want to use: <script type=”text/javascript” src=”http://widgetserver.com/syndication/subscriber/InsertPanel.js?panelId=d63bff44-978d-4d99-810a-c42e2bb5e8a3″></script><noscript>Get great free widgets at Widgetbox!</noscript>

I know I can’t use any javascript in wordpress, but the site where I got it says i can use it if I have “an installed version of WordPress”. But I’m not totally clear what that means. I think it means i am using wordpress software on my own domain name site? Anyhoo, I don’t know how expensive or complicated that process is.

The boring ticker is the following:
but I can’t seem to get that to work either, in a post or in the sidebar (I did upgrade to be able to edit the CSS, but I don’t know if that will help).

Sorry I’m such a wreck! I can almost understand what I’m doing, but obviously not enough. If anyone can help, I would appreciate it! Thanks so much.

“Installed version of WordPress” means self-hosted and not at wordpress.com hosting as there is different software running this service. You already mentioned that you know about javascript not working, so I will leave it at that. You might have better luck if you paste the following in a post or text widget:

<a href="http://www.TickerFactory.com"><img src="http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/d/4;10722;99/st/20071227/e/due/dt/-2/k/0836/event.png" /> </a>

That should help out as WordPress might not be liking the format that you are using for syntax with the what you posted.

Agree with Trent. Usually when you see “WordPress” on a third party site, they’re talking about regular WordPress installed with a webhost, not the WordPress multiuser software that runs this site here. If it’s made for wordpress.com, it will specifically say so.

Unless of course you’re Technorati and still have instructions up there months after being told it was wrong and even with an employee emailing you back saying “Oh really?” *grumble*
