oh no–changed username, lost blog
-
I have been using my WP account to run a blog for a friend. As part of the process for turning the blog over to him, I decided to change the username (which had been my name). To my horror, when I logged in again under the new name, the blog was gone. Maybe I misunderstood the instructions: I took ‘Selecting “No matching blog address” will just change your username and leave the address of your blog alone.’ to mean that if I should take that option if I wanted nothing to change except the username, but apparently it detached the username from the blog. The blog is still out there, but I can’t access it administratively. This is probably a job for WP support but the support page says they’re on vacation. Can anyone help?!?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

When we resister a username here we provide an email address which becomes our unique identifier. When we are signed into WordPress.con under that username all blogs registered are registered to that user name.
Once you change your username you will not be able to change it back to what it was. If you just want to show your name differently please only change your Display Name.

What is the URL of the blog in question?
Which usernames were changed from what and to what?
I have flagged this thread for Staff attention. -
It’s sort of a long story but basically: the user/account name was my name, and I wanted it to be his instead. I was here a couple of weeks about asking about transferring the blog to another account, but encountered an obstacle with that, because his email address was associated with the account and I couldn’t create a new account for him with that email address. So I thought/hoped that changing the username would accomplish the same thing. Which it might have if I had done it right.
The blog URL is http://http://caelumetterra.wordpress.com. What I need is for it to be linked to the username dnichols721.Thanks

Everything seems to be back in place now. Assuming this wasn’t magic and someone did something to fix it: a huge thank you to you, timethief, and whoever fixed it.

Volunteers answering forum questions don’t have backend access to blogs; only Staff do. I’m glad to hear they sorted this for you. Best wishes with your blog. :)

Hi, this just happened to me as well, I can still access dashboards and post and stuff, but I have to go the long way; under Blog I have “register a new blog” and can’t access any of my blogs through there. If I visit one of my blogs, I can go New -> Post, then access the dashboard through there, but I’d rather not have to do that.
Thanks!

@chroniclesofal
Will you please provide some details:
(1) Which browser and version of it are you using please?
(2) Have you cleared your browser cache and cookies since you made this change?
(3) How long ago did you make this change? -
Hi I did the same thing about an hour ago. Changed my login from thelifeofabusybee to organyzedabyss and the URL with it to organizedabyss.wordpress.com and now cannot access my blogs. Cleared cookies and SSL and opened a new Internet explorer window. But still no blogs.

@organizedabyss
Hello there,
Staff is trying to track this down so it would be extremely helpful if you would please tell us which version of the IE browser you are using and which operating system you are running. Will you please do that for us? -
After clearing your cookies and cache, try directly going to your blog’s Dashboard (add /wp-admin/ to the end of the URL).
Does that knock things back in gear?
