  I used to have a blog called scienceontherocks.wordpress.com, but I cannot find it anymore. I started recreating it, but the system now says it already exists.

  scienceontherocks.wordpress.com is no longer available.
  The authors have deleted this blog.

  I’m sorry but there are no exceptions made; deleted blog URLs here are not recycled.

  That’s why 3 warnings are given and why a verification link in an email that must be clicked is sent in order to accomplish deletion.

  You can register another blog with a similar name. http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/

  Or you can register a domain vis a domain mapping upgrade and it will not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is.

  Thanks for the explanation! I must admit I can’t remember that I deleted it. Does word press suspend accounts of no submissions are made after a while? Just so I know…

  No there is no requirement that one uses a blog they register and unused blogs are not ever suspended or deleted here. There are internal records kept that reveal when and by which username account a blog has been deleted.
