Old images are changing!

I’m having this trouble where the images in the older posts, they change into another image from another post! It already happen before, but now it’s really boring me. I don’t know waht to do, it’s ridiculous that I have to be constantly looking for the errors and making the maintance. It’s something about the theme? Did happen to someone else? Or it’s just something wrong about wordpress and it’s better for me to move on to another website?

Yes, I’ve seen the complain again, and I have experimented with this myself on purpose. I can’t be sure this is the case with you, but here’s what I’m aware of:
If you upload an image for a second time, or another image that has the same name with an already uploaded one, the new one is distinguished by getting a “1” at the end of its title (“2” if you upload a third identically named one etc.). So if you use similar titles that end with numbers, things can get mixed-up. For example, if you have an image named “photo6” in a post, and then you upload a different image named “photo61” in a newer post, wp will think it’s a copy of photo6 and you get the old one in place of the new.

panaghiotisadam, we’ve specifically tested the scenario you describe and can’t reproduce the problem. If such a thing happens, there is more to it than that. Can you please test again, and contact support with the exact steps if you are able to confirm it?

The only time I’ve heard of this before, someone was uploading from her camera and using the same exact image filenames, strings of numbers. Once she changed the numbers, it stopped happening.

@tellyworth: Thanks for your interest in this. I had found out precicely that when I tried it the previous time I saw such a complain (and I’d be happy to find out it doesn’t happen anymore!). I’ll try it again and let you know.

@tellyworth: I tried, and I was unable to reproduce the problem – no matter what the combination. The images I had tried last time I tested this are still in my media library: two different portraits titled “bach23.jpg” and “bach231.jpg”. I clearly remember the swap, as it was a bit of a jaw-dropper, but unfortunately I have deleted the test posts I had created. I even remember the posts of the member who had complained about the problem (photos of young girls in a wedding in Japan and close-ups of various dishes), but I cannot locate that thread now.
One thought: I think all that was BEFORE the introduction of the new image options and media settings. Could it have been a little hole in the system that doesn’t exist anymore?
(And of course I’d be very curious to know what you’ll find out re fksalomao’s case.)

This is happening to me, too. I’ll assume it has to do with the file name and be careful with naming files in the future. If someone knows another reason for this phenomenon, please advise.

Since staff denies this happening, and since we never heard an answer from them, I suggest you contact Support – including a link to this thread so they can see all four cases.
