Old inactive website needs deleting please

  Hi guys,

  I was hoping you’d be able to help taking down a wordpress website hosted under wordpress.com. The URL is breastonvillagesingers.wordpress.com and it has not been active since 2012 as you can see.

  It has now been superseded by thevillagesingers.org.uk and sometimes adversely affects the searching.

  Your help would be much appreciated.

  Hi @jamesmiddleton691,

  To delete your website first you need to remove all the upgrades you have (plans, custom domains, domain mapping, premium theme or any other upgrade). Click on the Manage Upgrades button and use the links on that page to cancel your upgrades. You could also transfer your upgrades to another site on your account. To do that, please contact support.

  Once you’ve removed all your upgrades go to Settings, scroll to the bottom and select Delete your site permanently. On the next step you will have the option to export your content by selecting Export Content button (note that after you delete your website the content will not be recoverable). Then scroll down to find the Delete Site button. If you have multiple sites on your account, be sure to confirm that the correct site address is listed in the yellow alert bar

  Please keep in mind that site deletions are permanent! Deleting a site permanently removes it and you’ll never be able to re-use its WordPress.com address.

  Of course to delete that site you’ll need to be able to log in to the account that created it. The name of the person who may have created the account does display on that site. Are you still in contact with them?

  Thanks for your replies.

  I failed to mention that the website is not owned by me. Also, the owner of the website no longer knows their WordPress details and so it’s not as simple as logging on and deleting it unfortunately.

  I’m assuming we’ll need to get admins involved, but is there any way to do that for a freely hosted WordPress site?

  I’m afraid staff don’t delete sites. Only owners do. Can the owner still access the email address used at the time of site creation to get a password reset?
