Old Links from WP.com Not Working on New, Redirected (Self-Hosted) Site?
-
Hi! I recently changed from WP.com to a self-hosted site. I paid for the WP.com Redirect service, but it seems that none of the links to my former WP.com blog domain work now. (I moved from http://www.wallflourgirl.wordpress.com to http://www.wallflourgirl.com.) Yesterday I tried installing a plugin, Velvet Blues Update URLs, to fix this problem, but since the issue isn’t with the main URL, nothing has been resolved.
When I enter on a URL that directs to my old site (for example, http://www.wallflourgirl.wordpress.com/2014/02/22/my-favorite-puffy-chewy-peanut-butter-chocolate-chip-cookies/), I receive an error message. I had to manually navigate to this post on my new site, which has changed the post’s URL automatically to this: http://www.wallflourgirl.com/?p=2445. Is there any way to make sure the URLs actually direct users to my content instead of an error page? I’m not sure why they no longer match up. Thank you!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

In order for Site Redirect to work the way you want it to, you need to set up your self hosted site so that it has the same URL structure as your WordPress.com site had. There is no way for our server to know that the new version of http://www.wallflourgirl.wordpress.com/2014/02/22/my-favorite-puffy-chewy-peanut-butter-chocolate-chip-cookies/ is http://www.wallflourgirl.com/?p=2445. Sire redirect merely changes the _____.wordpress.com part of your URL to whatever you have asked it to redirect to.
So, at this point you can do one of two things, you can redo your self-hosted site setup so that the URL structures match. Or I can refund your Sire Redirect purchase.
I realize that is is kind of a pain to do, but in the long run I thin you will be happier if you take the time to set up your URL structure to match your old WordPress.com site. If you have trouble with that, a great resource for self-hosted help is the WordPress.org forums:

Thank you for your detailed reply! I’ll ask my friend to help me look into the issue of URL structures; he’s more familiar with website management than I am, but it may take some time. If it’s possible, I’d like to ask for a Site Redirect refund for the time being, so we can take ample time to sort things out first. Please let me know if this will work out. Thank you again!

I have processed that refund for you. Please be aware that it can take up to 7-10 business days for refunds to show up on your statement.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.

Hello! I was *just* about to let you know that the problem has been fixed from my side. I’m so sorry for this inconvenience. Is there any way to cancel the refund? If not, I’ll be happy to go through the purchase again. Thank you for all your time!

Never mind, I received the refund and have made the purchase again. Thank you for your time!

Ha! Isn’t that always the way things go?
In any case, glad you got it all sorted out, even if you did have to set up the Site Redirect twice.
