Old Post Disappeared

Someone was looking for an old and popular post of mine and said she couldn’t find it. She asked me for the link. I looked myself and she was right. It’s not there. I actually found it in the trash, which was strange. I tried to restore it, then it said “error” and disappeared completely. I’m very aggravated as it was one of my post popular posts with about 70+ comments. :( Any way to retrieve it? It was called “Help My Husband Name our Baby” and it was published in July 2011. Luckily it was picked up by nameberry.com soon after so I have the content, but all those comments are gone. I really want the post back!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I suggest you contact staff directly via your Help button on the dashboard.

Oh, and I have had a similar experience. Noted that posts I know I made years ago are no longer on the blog. I’ve had no explanation, but of course I can’t remember the titles, etc. But even a search won’t find them.

As rain said, first ask staff if they can retrieve the post:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

If they cannot, you can find most of the comments in a cached version of your post:
    http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:http://ninabadzin.com/2011/07/25/help-my-husband-name-our-baby/%23comments

But restoring them will be a lot of work. After copying the whole page, you’ll need to click each commenter’s username and copy the URLs of the sites linked to the usernames. Then go to your blog and submit your own comments to the post you’ll have re-created. Then log out and sumbit the comments and replies of your visitors (if you don’t log out, you’ll get your gravatar in place of theirs). Then log back in, go to Comments in your dashboard, and edit each comment to correct the names, and the date&time, and add the URLs of the other commenters.

You can, however, paste in the entire stream of comments in the actual Post itself, below a notation. I’ve done that too. IT looks a bit different, but it is much easier.

Thanks everyone. Staff is closed this weekend! ugh. Anyway, my only hesitation on cutting and pasting and all that is my subscribers will get notice of a new post, right? I’d rather someone the staff restore the old post if that’s possible so it’s not published as a new post.
