Old Stats Page

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I am trying to customize the settings so that I can ALWAYS have the old statistics page, and not the new, less good stats page.

How can I set wordpress up so that it only loads the OLD stats page?

    thanks for your help

You do not need to use the new stats page. You can use the old one. https://wordpress.com/my-stats/

Thanks for your reply, but the site seems to be automatically loading the new stats page every time. There is an option to go to the old stats page, but it would be nice to set it so that wordpress automatically directs to the old stats page.

Is there a way to set this?

    thanks

There’s no way to default to the legacy stats page. But you can still visit it through your site’s dashboard under Dashboard > Site Stats.

Let me know if you have more questions.

Thanks for your reply, but it is a shame that there is no way to have the classic page as the default. I do not like the new stats page at all, same with the new page for posting. Cannot see the logic in changing from the old classic format, but I guess that there is nothing that can be done now.

    Thanks for your reply

I agree with jeritilley. The old stats page gave you a clear overview without having to scroll down, or a least scroll down just once. The new stats page involves lots of scrolling, and scrolling, and scrolling … I too would like the old stats page as default.

Good to see that I am not alone. There seems to be a trend for changing things that are working perfectly well, and change does not necessarily mean an improvement.

Bring back the old stats page !!

I also agree with Jeritilley. I am so irritated with this compulsion to “change” things. Look at what Microsoft did to WIndows. I had to purchase a plug-in to give me a workable menu.

Every time I click back to the old stats page I am reminded of how irritated I am with the change. Added scrolling is NOT an improvement Why not give us the option to choose without being force-fed with this constant reminder?

It’s clearly designed for phone use, but how many people blog from a phone?

One problem is that very techy people love tech, and prefer using phones to do stuff because they love their gadgets, and just assume other people do the same.

It’s like how you’ll hear people ask “Who has a land line any more?” as if it’s a tiny number, rather than nearly half of the population.

I have noticed they’ve moved the link to the old stats page waaay down to the bottom of the page now. It’s like they are trying to stop people from finding it, to reduce the number who use it, so they can say the new page is getting more popular.

Richardl is 100% correct. There is an obvious attempt to “force” users to use the new stats page by requiring us to do the very action we object to in the first place … which is to SCROLL endlessly down to the bottom. And there in a tiny script is our goal … the original Stat page format.

And does anyone else notice that there are NO supportive comments on any of these message boards. None. Some of the earlier ones had an administrator pop in now and then to defend the WP position … but not a single comment supporting the new format has been posted on these forums. Not ONE.

    I think that says volumes.

How could it be? When I’ve checked my stats page, I saw that, I have two visitors from 3 countries:)
How could it be? Maybe, some of my visitors can travel at speed of light on planet Earth, and I love them:)
Kidding aside, some of my friends ask me “why don’t you like new stats page?”
My answer is : It is slow, and giving wrong-lack information.
I guess, this image would be good explain what I mean.

WordPress employees have made statements that those that are happy with the new stats would have no reasons to say anything. They would just be happy in silence. I find this hard to believe.

There are many of us that use wordpress (our Blogs) to make a living. Constantly changing our interface interferes with that. It makes what was once simple and comfortable irritating.
If this continues then I foresee many of us that dislike these changes leaving in droves.
Way to alienate your userbase WordPress. I mean surely making this sort of thing optional wouldn’t be that difficult, would it? Really?

    Backing up tempest86 here.

Am part of a community branching off from Webfictionguide.com – hundreds of writers who use blogs (often WordPress) to write serialized fiction. Many of us do it to make a living (I do), or as a part time job. Discussions in chats and forums tied to this community have been ongoing about some of the disastrous choices made in changing the interface, and what it means when the dashboard, interface, or stats pages change.

With this discussion going on, not one person has chimed in with “This is good! I like this change!” and a number of the more active/successful writers have been talking about what they’d do if they had to relocate to another type of blog.

It’s clear that WordPress wants to make mobile blogging possible. What they should do is make it a toggle, something that lets people switch from desktop to tablet style interface.

What I’m afraid they’ll do is they’ll continue to make the tablet style interface a part of things, they’ll continue to make changes with minimal announcement or testing, then gradually force the rest of us to adopt it, bugs and all (as they’ve started doing with the post editor and the stats page).

I should say ‘bugs and limited functionality’, not just ‘bugs and all’. Have to be specific about why this is so distressing.

  • Unknown's avatar

For example, if they ask me, “which one choose you”. I would make my choice on old stats page. They ask this question once and for all, and if user accepts the using old stats page, never again have not deal with the new updates.
I am not against innovations. But, I came here for writing and sharing. I don’t need to deal in almost every single day with new updates.

Notice that today we now have the reminder to check out the new stats page in BOLD font as we sign in.. Now Word Press trying to be sure everyone sees it . How about accepting that when we do see it and decide we don’t like it that we can also say so in bold font.

NO I DO NOT LIKE THE NEW STATS PAGE!

And then a nice little button to return to the original stats page permanently … we DO not need to be reminded to see this disaster again and again.

What I cannot understand is why WordPress is so adamant about forcing this down our throats. Why can’t they just allow us the option? Is that so difficult? What are they gaining by insisting on this terrible format.

Professional writers and bloggers aren’t designing their sites for IPhones. I have every electronic device known to man on my desk and I use my huge HP screen for everything except phone calls. What does WordPress want to do … dumb us down to the level of teenagers and Twitter and Facebook. Give us a break. Some of us are professionals here.

A mistake was made. Man up and admit it and then let’ s all move on. With a choice given, then everyone wins.

  • Unknown's avatar

Where are we writing this? “NO I DO NOT LIKE THE NEW STATS PAGE!”
I am in; count me too in this resistance:)

  • Unknown's avatar

It appears that nobody at the WordPress organization is listening, and the requests for the old stats. page are falling on deaf ears.

Perhaps it is part of a general trend now, to change things for the sake of change. I like buttons that say ‘compose’ or ‘reply’, instead of the current trend for icons instead.

And the move to the ‘new’ stats page is just another example of change for change sake. The new stats page does not seem to have any advantages.

I just hope that WordPress administration ARE listening to what users are saying.

I don’t want to see a new stats page when I login. I want to see the dashboard and then decide what I wish to do!!! I am spending ages clicking around aimlessly trying to find how to bring up the dashboard. You have total messed this up WordPress.
    Please stop changing things.
    You tamper for no reason!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    And yes, I am irritated!

  • Unknown's avatar

It is not hard to give a choice to the users. Just asked once and all to the users,
“If you want use new stats you choose this…”
“If you want not use you choose this one…”
I do not undestand making pressure for using new stats.
This is not bringing innovation, this is impose sanction involuntary.
