Old Twitter Username Still Showing Up in Blog Shares

  I changed my Twitter account from @jlsprinkelbug to @jessicasprinkel – changed it in Publicize and the sharing menu in Settings as well, but the Twitter shares are still showing “via @jlsprinkelbug” – can you help?? I saw a few posts in the Forums on the same topic, but it doesn’t look like any of them have been resolved. Thanks.

  Hi Jess!

  Yes, I see what you’re talking about. Can you try one thing for me? Can you revoke access for the WordPress.com application on your old (@jlsprinkelbug) account? Here’s the page to do that: https://twitter.com/settings/applications

  If that doesn’t work, I think it’s just a temporary caching issue on our end. For example, this post shows the correct twitter username.

  If this continues to be a problem, please let me know and I’ll have our developers look into it.

  I just changed the name of @jlsprinkelbug to @jessicasprinkel …they’re not two separate accounts. And no, I don’t think it’s a caching issue because the Budget Template post (more recent than the Analyst post) got several shares on Twitter but they’re all using the old username.

  Went ahead and revoked access, then reinstated access, and still have the problem. I went back and looked through all posts…anything that HAS been shared via Twitter is still showing the old username in the Twitter pop-up. The only post that seems to be working properly is the Analyst post, which is the only one that hasn’t been shared through Twitter yet.

  Hi Jess,

  I found the issue for you: when you write a new post, your Twitter username is stored with the post as metadata, so only new posts pull in your new username. However, I was able to go through and change all of your posts’ metadata and the correct Twitter username is now used throughout your site.
