Old Web Site
-
I had an old website years ago that was hosted elsewhere. I still pay, but the site has not been active for years. How do I started again? Transfer to you? Etc.? Cost is not the issue; capability is.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi artbushkin,
What is the address of the old website you are referring to?
Just let me know and we can go from there.

The old website was (and still supposedly is) http://www.ArtBushkin.com. It has an email associated with it. I have had difficulty in replying to your comment. Let me know if this succeeds. Thanks.

Thanks for providing the URL. Public records are showing that site as hosted by Network Solutions using the self-hosted version of the WordPress software from WordPress.org.
Going forward you have a couple of options:
– Move the site to WordPress.com choosing the plan that’s right for you. Hosting with WordPress.com you’ll always have the latest version of WordPress and access to tons of features. If you’re not using any or very few plugins this is the option I would recommend for simple sites.
– Continue to use the self-hosted version of WordPress at Network Solutions (or move the site to another host). You may want to install Jetpack which a plugin made by the team here at WordPress.com bringing extra management features to your site.If you’ve lost access to the site then you will need to contact Network Solutions or follow the self-hosted guide at:
https://codex.wordpress.org/Resetting_Your_PasswordYou’ll find more on the differences between WordPress.com and self-hosted sites at:
If you have any more questions just let us know.

I’m happy to move ArtBushkin.com to WordPress.com, as well as any associated email with the old site. I’m even happy to move any other related sites that I may have (e.g., ArtBushkin.org; ArtBushkin.net; etc.) to WordPress and then to have them forward as appropriate. I’m just not sure how to do this. Can you do it? Can you help me do it?
I’m happy to subscribe to the most expensive version ($25/month) if that’s what it takes to obtain your assistance. My develop of my old site is no longer available, so I really only want to preserve my domain name and then avail myself of your help.
By the way, I also have a blog at: artbushkin.wordpress.com and I do have a record of my Login (ArtBushkin) and my Password (which I’d be happy to share with you, if this communication is secure).

Hi there,
We’re happy to guide you through the process, but we cannot do it for you, as that would require access to your account at Network Solutions and to your site itself. Please do not share your passwords with us – we do not log into user accounts on other services to provide support, and we will never request your password for any service. We are already able to access your WordPress.com site if needed, but we only do that for troubleshooting purposes, not to perform actions on your site on your behalf.
My develop of my old site is no longer available, so I really only want to preserve my domain name and then avail myself of your help.
So you don’t want to keep the content on the site? In that case, you can purchase any of our plans at My Site ->Plans and use that to transfer your domain registration to us. You can find instructions to do that here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/
We do not provide email hosting, but you can connect an existing email account elsewhere to the domain once it is transferred here. You can find an overview and instructions for the most popular options here:
And from there you can then just start setting up your new site on WordPress.com.
All our plans also include live chat support, so if you prefer you can first purchase a plan, and then start a live chat with us so we can answer your questions and guide you through the steps in real time.
If you want to preserve the content of your current site as well, you can find a detailed guide on migrating it to your WordPress.com site here:
https://transferto.wordpress.com/self-hosted-wordpress-org/
This should be done before you transfer the domain to us, as the existing site will need to be online during this process.
