Old website whilst developing new

    We currently have a website hosted elsewhere and written with about to be obselete technology. I want that to keep running whilst we develop the replacement in WordPress. How can we do that? On starting to create a site in WordPress, on the very 1st screen, it asks for the domain name – will this switch the domain to WordPress and disable / stop our old site from working? How do we resolve this?

    Hi there,

    You can create a new WordPress.com site without transferring your domain.

    All sites on WordPress.com get a free WordPress.com or .blog subdomain when the site is created, that functions just like any regular subdomain, and your site is fully online and accessible at that subdomain (provided you set it to public).

    Look for that option in the site address suggestions and use that to create your site. Then you can build your site at that free address, even upgrade the site while still using the free address, and only switch the domain over to us once you’re ready.
