Old wordpress site – gone live as a Google site
-
I’ve just re-registered an old domain (www.karennawood.com) through Google and I used to have a site in wordpress for this domain. I was hoping to get back into wordpress and edit the site, however the site has gone live with just the text (no images or theme) and says it’s powered by Google Sites. I’ve gone into Google sites through my new google account but no site is listed so I can’t take the site down or edit it. I can’t seem to get back into my wordpress account either. What a mess! Can anyone help??? Thanks so much

what is the WordPress.COM site you need help with?
If you are hosted on WordPress.COM then: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

Thanks Auxclass. I used to have a wordpress site (3 years ago)with the domain karennawood.com. I’ve tried my old log in details but they dont work.
I can’t understand how my old wordpress site is now a Google site since re-registering the domain (through google for work)
I need to take it down / be able to edit it but can’t get into wordpress and can’t see the site listed under Google Sites either.

If you had a site here you would have had something like your-site.wordpress.com – and then the site name would have been changed using domain mapping – – but you would have still logged into and worked in your-site.wordpress.com

If you registered a domain through Google, they probably put in their own nameservers by default. Which is why it is pointing to a google site. You would need to change them if you wanted to point the domain to another webhost.
The Web Archive shows that karennawood.com was a self-hosted WordPress.org site. Not a WordPress.com site.
So, unless you made a backup of your old site, or you had an extremely kind webhost, I’m afraid your old site is lost.

Try the WayBack machine at the Internet Archive – archive.org I think – depending on many factors they might have some of your site
Sometimes search engines will have cached pages – you would need to search on the web URL – but after three years might be a bit of a stretch but some search engines don’t seem to forget

Here is the Wayback Machine page I was viewing:
