Old WP web site for small non-profit – no login info available

Our local garden club had a WP site for several years. All the people who set it up have moved away and don’t remember their user names and passwords, so we can’t update the site. We have created a new site in WP, but its name (url) is cumbersome and when anyone searches for our organization all they see is the old site. Is there any way for us to access the old site and update it?

    Hi @susanbluehill,

Can you share the link of the site in question?

In this case, you will have to prove the ownership of this site to the WordPress staff.

I am tagging WordPress staff so that they see this post and guide you on what needs to be done in this case.

    Best,
    Sunil Chauhan

  • Hi there – The site at https://bluehillgardenclub.com/ is hosted somewhere other than here at WordPress.com, so we’re not able to help directly. But we can still try to help guide you on next steps.

We used the site https://whois.domaintools.com/ to try to determine where the site is hosted, but since the DNS is set to Cloudflare we’re not able to make that determination.

You have a couple of options from here to try to regain access to the old site:

    1. You could have the previous owners try to perform the password reset option from here: https://bluehillgardenclub.com/wp-admin – example: https://d.pr/i/aDJXJS

That will send a password reset email to the email address listed on the site owner account. If that works, you’re one step closer to getting logged in.

    If that doesn’t work…

    2. Since the site is still live, someone is paying for it. There’s an invoice or billing statement somewhere which has the name of the hosting company. Find that and reach out to the hosting company to see what kind of support options they can offer to help you regain access to the site.

    We hope this helps. :)
