On page links without writing HTML code?

So I’m just starting out with WP hearing all about how much better a CMS system is over traditional HTML editors. The first thing I try is to add a on-page link and discover that this can’t be done using the interface, and I have to write HTML code. So it do this the discover that it actually directs me to a location that is slightly below the desired location. The solution is more HTML code. What gives? Is there a more advanced editor that I’m missing?

Not really. Try adding a link to a location on same page without having to write HTML code. I can’t find a way. If I need to write HTML to do simple tasks like this, why bother with WP at all?

    Hey tomsphotos2017,

I may be wrong, but it sounds like what you want to do is described here (https://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/page-jumps/) as a page jump.

Yes, that is what I tried. It kind of worked, only it does not jump to the desired location. Instead, it puts you a few hundred of px below, so you have to add more HTML code (a buffer) to get it to jump to the desired location. It seems like the WP editor should support a simple operation like this. I’m new to this and struggling to find a compelling reason to use WP. It was my understanding that using CMS meant that you did not have to write code, and it is supposed to simplify website development. I know how to use editors like Dreamweaver and KompoZer. What are the advantages of WP? So far I’m not seeing any.
