On payment options

Using Jetpack’s payment options, is there a way to keep track of which users paid for what products, automatically?

Hi there!
What’s the address of the site you’re working on? Which payment options are you referring to exactly?

Thanks for getting back to me.
This is for a self-hosted WordPress installation. I’m surprised this is not the right forum as my message was automatically posted to this forum from within wordpress.com, while I was in need of more information in relation to Jetpack’s plans for my self-hosted website.

You can post directly to https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/jetpack/ but if you let us know what exactly are you looking for we may be able to advise here.

Jetpack’s paid plans for self-hosted WordPress include monetisation options. Specifically, they allow for accepting payments.
I want to accept payments, but I want these payments to be automatically tied to users of my WordPress installation, so that I can have my WordPress installation automatically know if a particular user has purchased a particular product.
That is, I do not want to sell something, get a notification, then, by hand, mark a particular product as being bought by a particular user.
Can I achieve this with what Jetpack offers?

You posted in the WordPress.com forums, because you used the WordPress.com support contact form. But your site is not hosted on WordPress.com and we don’t provide support for Jetpack in this forum. Support for Jetpack’s free features are provided at https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/jetpack/, and for paid plans at https://jetpack.com/contact-support/?rel=support
Jetpack’s paid plans for self-hosted WordPress include monetisation options. Specifically, they allow for accepting payments.
So you’re referring to the Pay with PayPal feature. All that is, is a styled PayPal payment button embedded in your site. It’s not tied to any users in the database, nor to any specific products.
When someone pays using that button, you just receive an email, from PayPal, saying that payment for x amount have been received from a particular email address. That’s it.
That is, I do not want to sell something, get a notification, then, by hand, mark a particular product as being bought by a particular user.
For what you describe here you need an ecommerce plugin instead, like WooCommerce, which allows you to create products on your site using the Product custom post type, has order-management built in, and allows you to connect to a number of different payment gateways to process payments on the site.
