On Plans

    Hi Anyone
Has anyone tried out the Plans ?

Q1. When I change to Premier Plan do I use my own Domain http://specialasianfood.com or I still have to use http://specialasianfood.wordpress.com ?

Q2. In Customizer I can only add Colours and Fonts in Premiem Plan not Free Plan – am I right? Free Plan WordPress will add advertisements – am I right ? Has anyone tried the Premium Plan – is it good? How do I do the Footer at the base of the page – can I just type in my Website Address, Email and Telephone and also Copyright ?

I would appreciate if someone who know can answer my questions. Thank you.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • A1. Custom domain is included in the Premium plan. So you can get rid of .wordpress.com part from your domain name.

A2. Some themes allow additional colors for free. Recently WordPress.com made some Google fonts available for free. So you only need Premium plan for colors only if your theme doesn’t already offer free colors.

Premium plan is a very good value for your money. You can check what’s included in Premium plan here: https://store.wordpress.com/plans/premium/ and compare it with other plans here: https://wordpress.com/plans/compare

We can add some custom text like copyright to the footer using custom CSS, which is included in Premium plan. You can get help with CSS by posting to CSS Customization forums here: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization

Feel free to ask if you have any more questions :)

    Hi chaitanyamsv and cobalteye

Thank you very much for your replies on the Premium Plan. Recently I saw in this website http://www.closetcooking.com there are advertisements on the Premium Plan – I thought Premium Plan do not have advertisements ?

Chaitanyamsv – I saw you use Categories and Archives in your own website.

Q1. Can you give me the right Category to use for my three cookbooks on the right Sidebar of my website http://specialasianfood.wordpress.com and also recipes to be listed?

Q2. Can you also show me the Archives where I can store my articles.
Show me how to do it.

I appreciate your attention and reply.
    Thank you.

Regarding advertisements, you can apply to host WordAds if your blog has enough traffic.

    WordAds

  • Hi Sophia,

You are correct, Premium plan includes the No Ads upgrade. So there won’t be any ads on the WordPress.com sites on Premium plan.

http://www.closetcooking.com/ is a Blogger site; it is not hosted on WordPress.com. So that site may be displaying ads.

A1. Categories provide a helpful way to group related posts together, and quickly tell readers what a post is about. So you can go with something like: Asian-Chinese, Chinese-Cuisines, and Oriental-Cookbook.

You can learn more about Categories in this support guide: https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/

A2. You can add Archives and Categories widgets to your sidebar by following the instructions in the following support guides:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/archives-widget/
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/categories-widget/

Give them a try and feel free to ask if you have any questions :)

    Hi chaitanyamsv
Thank you for your email of 1 Sep 2015 and help.

Q1. Can I refer to page instead of post? Let’s say I use Asian-Chinese as Category in Widget and I need to link to the Recipes Titles under Menu Cookbooks – how do I do it? I click Category in Widget and show
    Title Asian-Chinese
Description: See recipes under Cookbooks – The Asian Chinese Cookbook.

    show as dropdown
    show as post counts
    show as hierarchy
Which one do I tick above and then Save.

Do I do the same with Chinese-Cuisines and Oriental-Cookbook ?Pl

Q2. Under Archives in Sidebar for old content
Can I use on any article published in RSS or any articles published?
I click Archives in Widget and show
    Title: August 2015
Description: See RSS August 2015 (how do I link to RSS Aug 2015?)

    show as dropdown
    show as post counts
    show as hierarchy
Which one do I tick above and then Save

Please check the above and correct my mistakes if any.
    Thank you and reply.

  • Firstly, seems the menu is missing on your site. Could you add it back?

    Go to https://https://specialasianfood.wordpress.com/wp-admin/nav-menus.php?action=locations
Select a menu from the Primary Menu drop down.
    Click Save Changes button.

This will bring the menu back on your site.

A1. Categories are meant for posts, not pages.

I suggest to pick “show post counts” as this shows all your categories to your visitors at a glance. You can add dropdown as well but I need to click it to see your categories.

A2. Archives widget shows your monthly post archives, either as a drop down or list of months with post counts against each month.

This isn’t really meant for RSS.

    Hi Chaitanyamsv

Thank you for your reply of 3 Sep 2015.

I do not need to type the word Menu – I am referring to the Menu above page like Home, Video etc.

I want to edit names of the 3 cookbooks under the right Sidebar as Categories. I go Homepage>Appearance>Widget>Categories – after doing that I see I have The Asian Chinese Cookbook in blue – I click this and see in Categories but I cannot delete.

    2. I want to link each of the books in the right Sidebar to each Cookbooks above – do you know how to link so that viewer can see the recipes.

I appreciate your effort and feedback to me.
    Thank you.

  • Categories widget displays all your categories in your sidebar.

    1. You currently have only one category, The Asian Chinese Cookbook. So all three category widgets display the same category name. Clicking on the category name will take your visitors to the posts in that category.

    I suggest to:

1.1 Create two more categories, Chinese Cuisines and Oriental Cookbook and assign some posts to them.

    1. 2 Remove the other two category widgets from your sidebar.

When you do 1, the other two categories also appear in the widget under the current The Asian Chinese Cookbook.

Visitors who click on the category will be taken to a page that lists all the posts under that category.

    2. Category widget is not flexible in terms of editing links. So it is not possible to change the links in the current side bar. You can however add a text widget and link it to whatever page or post you wish.

Here are the support guides on text widgets:
