On Portfolio page, "Projects" gallery shows, but the page's header/content don't
-
I have entered text in the Page’s header field and content box. Though it is designated as a portfolio page (in that right sidebar, “Portfolio Template” option), shouldn’t the body text and header still appear the project gallery? I have tried checking and unchecking the box in the Customize menu that allows you to “hide” this content…even when checked, the content is hidden. So frustrated! Please help!

Hi there, has this issue been resolved?
On your Portfolio page, I see the header image, header and tag line as it appears on all the other pages of your site.

Perhaps this earlier forum thread will give some insight?

@ geeemarie,
On Portfolio page, “Projects” gallery shows, but the page’s header/content don’t
The problem appears to be two-fold:
1. Your static front page, selected at Settings > Reader, appears to be the “About” page.
2. “Projects” is the title of a page which has been assigned to Portfolio Page Template, but it evidently was originally titled “Portfolio,” and still has the slug “portfolio” in it’s permalink. It’s also titled “Portfolio” in your primary custom menu. However, if there is content within the page, yes, it should display above the projects. Perhaps you have another page titled “Portfolio” (with the correct slug this time) which has content, but is in draft or pending status?
Though it is designated as a portfolio page (in that right sidebar, “Portfolio Template” option), shouldn’t the body text and header still appear the project gallery?
This is a bit more confusing than the previous question, but I think you might be asking the same question that I responded to above.

Should have said the problem is threefold. Think I’ve figured out the first two parts, but uncertain about the third.

Correction:
1. Your static front page, selected at Settings > Reader, appears to be the “About” page.
Choosing the “About” page as the static front page is perfectly fine, and definitely not a problem. So the two issues I see are as follows:
1. “Projects” is the title of a page which has been assigned to Portfolio Page Template, but it evidently was originally titled “Portfolio,” and still has the slug “portfolio” in its permalink. It is also titled “Portfolio” in your primary custom menu.
2. If there is content within any page, including those assigned to Portfolio Page Template, it should display. In the case of Portfolio Page Template pages it should display above the projects. I don’t know why your content wouldn’t be displayed. Is it possible that you have another page titled “Portfolio” (with the correct slug this time) which has content, but is in draft or pending status?

@justjennifer: thank you SO much for that link…that is EXACTLY the problem I’m having. and @musicdoc1 — thanks, too. I haven’t fixed the problem yet…but if I’m understanding correctly (both from this thread and the previous one @justjennifer linked me to), i need to do the following to remedy the problem:
1. Create a new “(My) Portfolio page – within pages (set to portfolio in template)
2. Create pages for each of the gallery items I wish to display. These will effectively take the place of the “projects” and the projects menu altogether? (My understanding is that if uploading display items to the portfolio, they will automatically be filed under the title “Projects” – that Illustratr defaults to a “projects” gallery, whether or not you name it projects – so it’s not enough to allow the default to function like a normal page….it doesn’t think you want to input other content given that it’s this “default” gallery composed of your “projects” ???)
3. Make sure all linked media remains uploaded, so that in the pages I create for each of my display items, I can display and/or link out to PDFs/articles and/or include feature photos….that I can basically do/retain all of the information I have now, I just have to go through Pages on the lefthand nav menu RATHER than Projects.Just trying to clarify/make sure I’ve got this before I go deleting things I still need :)
Thanks to you both for your posts and your help!

Addendum to 2. : Nest each of the new pages I create for my (actual) projects underneath portfolio, so they show up in the gallery format?

i think i fixed it!!!
played around with things a bit, and ultimately, i had to remove “Portfolio” from my primary menu (“The Details”) so that it is not a publicly accessible page unto itself (HOWEVER, all of my projects still sit within that page – have “portfolio” slugs). By setting “GMH Portfolio” (the second page I created to test things out with this) to “Portfolio Template” (in right sidebar options) and then viewing the update….all of my portfolio projects showed up, along with my specified header “GMH Portfolio” and the gallery intro text.
Adventures in WP! Many thanks – both of you were tremendously helpful!
I do think that with the Illustratr theme, it provides you with a Portfolio page automatically…but, with what we’ve discovered, you can truly make any page

hit enter too early. sorry for so many addenda :)
anyway. was saying you can truly make any page a portfolio, the Illustratr theme just gives you a default portfolio page to introduce the functionality, etc. and for folks who don’t want to edit the “Projects” title or add intro text…it works just fine.

1. Create a new “(My) Portfolio page – within pages (set to portfolio in template)
Unnecessary. You can fix the problem I’ve described above by changing the title of your “Projects” page to “Portfolio,” or to “My Portfolio” if you prefer, and changing the corresponding title in the primary custom menu. misslaurabentley created a new page with a different title, but that was unnecessary. She could have used the original page.
2. Create pages for each of the gallery items I wish to display. These will effectively take the place of the “projects” and the projects menu altogether?…
Again, not necessary. A project can consist of a gallery, and you can make as many such galleries as you like (as long as you don’t go over the storage limit)
My understanding is that if uploading display items to the portfolio, they will automatically be filed under the title “Projects” – that Illustratr defaults to a “projects” gallery, whether or not you name it projects…
I have not seen this behavior with the Illustratr theme.
3. Make sure all linked media remains uploaded, so that in the pages I create for each of my display items, I can display and/or link out to PDFs/articles and/or include feature photos….
You’ve lost me here. I’ll come back and reread this when I’ve more time.

@geeemarie,
I hadn’t seen your last two posts here when I sent my last. Glad to hear that you’ve got it all figured out. Think I’ve finally gpt it figured out too.You were right, the default mystery “Portfolio” page is the thing causing the problems…but only for those who want to add content, AND not have the page title mysteriously turned to “Projects.” I hadn’t been able to duplicate that effect which both you and misslaurabentley had with the odd Portfolio-Projects page, until I decided to create a page titled “Portfolio,” as that was the only thing that you and she had in common that I hadn’t. All of mine had been numbered: Portfolio 1, Portfolio 2, etc.
Only when I finally created a page titled “Portfolio” did I get the same results you and she had: 1. the title of the page displays as “Projects” instead of “Portolio,” and 2. the page content does not display. It took me a while to figure out that this is due using the page title “Portfolio” with this theme, regardless of the template setting (though it will not display until you have at least one project published).
Stranger yet:
1. If you delete the “Portfolio” page, but leave the link to it in the custom menu, your header navigation bar “Portfolio” will still link to that “non-existent” page, which the theme retitles “Projects.” Also, merely adding the extension “/portfolio” to your website URL displays this mystery page which doesn’t really exist and therefore has no edit tab.2. If you delete the “Portfolio” page, and remove the link to it in the page in the custom menu, the “Portfolio” page still won’t go away, as you found out earlier than I.

Thanks WordPress.
