  Once I have an API AKISMET key, what am I supposed to do with it?

  If your site is here on WordPress.com, then you don’t need to do anything with the API key. It’s not needed.

  If your site is hosted elsewhere, install the Akismet plugin to your blog, activate it, then enter your API key. For additional assistance, please post your question at the other WordPress forum which is for self-hosted blogs: https://wordpress.org/support/

  If you don’t have a username at that forum, you’ll need to register before posting.
