Once I've logged in to WordPress I cannot load my dashboard

… or, more specifically, it will load if I leave it for a ridiculous amount of time (… 15 minutes?), but then I cannot use any of the operating tools unless I wait the same long period off time for each operation. This has been happening since Sunday last (10th June).
My activity elsewhere on the internet is fine. I downloaded Firefox and it made no difference.

First thing to try: Log out, clear your browser cache and cookies, restart your browser and then try again.
Second thing: Try a different browser to see if the issue is related to the specific browser you were using.
Third thing: Shut down your computer and then start it back up again and reboot your internet modem.
-
And I’m sorry, I see you tried a different browser.
Try the third suggestion. I’ve seen a few instances where I had issues with some sites but not others and rebooting the modem seemed to clear things up.
Also, what country are you in?
-
thanks for the response. I tried the ‘third thing’ – no difference. I am operating from the UK.
I recently – before the ‘slow down’ – converted a lot of categories to tags and some tags to categories, I don’t know if this might have upset things. Also I removed a text widget (blog nation) from my blog, would this upset things?
I have read in other forums about disabling all the plug ins, but I don’t know what these are. Are they widgets?

What you’ve done would not have caused any problems. The stuff you find on the internet, and on other forums is typically for self-hosted wordpress installations and is not applicable here since we cannot use plugins for security reasons.
Try going to users > personal settings and select “Always use HTTPS when visiting administration pages” and then save, log out, log back in and then see if you can access the dashboard and things.

Thank you again for your suggestions. I tried as you said, hit ‘save’ and eventually received a: ‘The connection to mlewisredford.wordpress.com was interrupted while the page was loading.’ I logged out anyway (they sometimes do what they say they can’t do anyway), but no change when I logged back in.

I found this on http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-92145-one-certain-site-will-not-load-help#q=Why+can%27t+i+load+one+specific+website&cur=1&url=%2F
“The correct answer to this problem is as follows:
1. You must go into your router.
2. Enter the setup section.
3. Select MAC address.
4. Select user defined.
5. Change a few numbers and letters in the MAC address.
6. Save settings and reboot your computer and reset your MODEM.This problem occurs when viewing the same site over a router from more that one computer or application at the same time for a period of time. This activates something in the server software that puts your IP address on a so called “BAND LIST”. Your web hosting company will not be able to correct it because they don’t know what is going on because they can see that it is working fine from their point of view.
Most common response is: Replace your router.
It works for them… But it is not the correct answer and it costs money to do so.More Info:
If you check your IP address with and without your router, you will see that it is different. The MAC address on your router is different from the one on your modem. The MAC address helps define what your IP address is. If you are on an “IP Band List”, you must change your IP. This is only possible through changing the MAC address on the router or calling you ISP, if you are not using a router.”I couldn’t make sense of it when I went into my router and eventually lost all internet connection at all – had to buy a new router. But it seems a reasonable explanation of what happened to my blog. It could save a lot of unecessary wreckage in the future.
