ONE AGAIN PROBLEMS

The problem we face is that our DNS has to be changed; this is the third time since we bought our premium account in October 2014 and hopefully it will be the last time we have problems with our DNS.

In the past the problem has been solved through logging in to our account on DomainNameRoundup.com where our domain is located, but not this time. When we log in to DomainNameRoundup.com then there is no domain belonging to us and thus there is no way for us to change the DNS. In other words our domain does not exist anymore oven though we bought it no longer than 4 months ago. How it can be that our domain have disappeared even though we pay for it to exist and work is a mystery and extremely disappointing from a costumers perspective.

We have a premium account that we bought in October 2014 and expect it to work smoothly and we expect WordPress to make chore that we get what we pay for, which we do not think that we have since our homepage have been shut down due to technical problems three times and in total over week of time since we got our premium account 4 months ago. So you can understand that we are very disappointed in the service that we have bought from WordPress. We are a non for profit NGO working in Kibera an area of slum in Kenya and these issues means that the funding of our organsiation goes down with negative effects for the people living in poverty we try to support.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Then, would your problem not be with DomainNameRoundup.com and not WordPress.com? If they took your money for a domain name and it went poof in four months, it sounds like you need to take it up with them.

No, because we are paying of WordPress and not DomainNameRoundup.com. We have never paid DomainNameRoundup.com a cent but we have paid WordPress a lot. Therefore we are their customer and therefore they are the once we should complain to!

what is the underlying WordPress.com URL of the blog you upgraded? By that I mean what is the http://whatever.wordpress.com URL?

    Hi @wayowayoafrica,

The issue here is that your domain wayowayo.org is not registered at WordPress.com. It’s registered elsewhere and mapped to WordPress.com.

Mapping a domain and registering a domain are a bit different. You can read a bit more about the difference at the top here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/all-about-domains/

In order for the domain wayowayo.org to work properly, you will need to maintain two upgrades:

    1. The Domain Mapping upgrade, which is included in the Premium bundle and good through 10/10/15 as shown here:

      https://wayowayoafrica.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=my-upgrades

    2. The domain registration, which is not at WordPress.com

Do you remember where you purchased the domain? If so, can you login to your account there to try to renew the domain?

Hi! I know that we are registered elsewhere (at Domainnameroundup.com), why that is I do not know because we bought it from you at WordPress and we started the homepage at WordPress and not elsewhere; we have not signed a deal with another company only with you at WordPress. In other words we are your costumer and not anybody ells.
As I stated earlier our domain is registered at DomainNameroundup.com and at their page our domain does not exist anymore therefor we cannot solve the problem, thus we cannot map the domain (this I know how to do). In a way we are between two chairs and that situation is what we need your help with. We are paining costumers of WordPress and therefore we expect you to help us!
If possible, we would also appreciate an explanation why we are registered at Domainnameroundup.com!

You purchased the domain from Domainnameroundup.com, not WordPress.com, whatever your recollection.

No we paid through our WordPress account. I know this because we didn´t know that DomainRoundUp.com existed when we bought our Premium account!

According to the Whois look up the domain is registered to WordPress.com’s registrar partner Wild West Domains LLC. Sot it is a wordpress.com issue.

I flagged this again for staff review. Possibly WWD owned DomainNameRoundup and let it go under or vice versa. In any case, this is clearly a staff problem. Sorry for doubting you before; it never occurred to me to trace the domain registration, since you got a bill from that company.

    Hi all!

The domain wayowayo.org was never registered with WordPress.com. It may have been registered with GoDaddy/WWD or one of their affiliates. However, it was not registered directly with WordPress.com.

@wayowayoafrica – There isn’t much we can do from our side here. The domain is registered elsewhere and appears as though it may have expired. When you paid for the Premium bundle at WordPress.com, you paid to have your domain mapped to your WordPress.com site. You are responsible for also maintaining the domain registration wherever you registered the domain. We cannot do that for you unless the domain is registered at WordPress.com.

There are two options moving forward:

    1. You can contact your registrar and see if they can potentially renew the domain
    2. I can remove the domain mapping upgrade from your Premium bundle so you can register a new domain with the bundle credit free of charge.

Let me know how you would like to proceed!

I do not understand this. When we bought the premium account didn´t we buy it from WordPress? Can you tell me more about the second option? Does it mean that we have to change our domain from wayowayo.org to something ells?

I do not understand this. When we bought the premium account didn´t we buy it from WordPress?

Yes – you did purchase the Premium bundle from WordPress.com. However, if the domain wayowayo.org was already registered elsewhere, purchasing the Premium bundle does not transfer the domain registration to WordPress.com. It just “maps” the domain. Domain mapping and domain registration are two separate things.

Can you tell me more about the second option? Does it mean that we have to change our domain from wayowayo.org to something ells?

Yes – you would need to change the domain wayowayo.org to something else if we proceed with that option. The only way to continue using wayowayo.org is to renew the registration at the domain registrar or wait for it to expire entirely so you can re-register it.

It looks like wayowayo.co is available if you would like to register that instead!
