One particular commenter is always dumped into the spam queue

  • Unknown's avatar

I have one commenter on my site (http://www.madmenmad.wordpress.com) who always ends up in the spam queue. There are no links in her comments, nothing bizarre about her IP address or email address that I can see, but one of my daily chores is to rescue wisefish’s comments.

Is there a solution for this?

Hi there – Can you please send all details into the Akismet folks? They should be able to sort things out :)

Hi there. In another forum thread, people have noted that despite contacting askimet, nothing improves. I had an experience being spam for a while and so posted how I was able to be un-spammed. That info is in the other thread so instead of posting it again, I’ll leave a link.

Fracas, I read your advice. It sounds good in theory, but I like to comment on blogs a lot. This would mean that I’d have to get 50-100 people to all mail Akismet, and that’s not going to happen – especially with strangers. This is so incredibly frustrating, and this is what makes half of the blogging experience. I don’t have the opportunity to meet new people either.

I’ll do anything. I’ll even pay for WP if I can finally be able to comment on people’s blogs.

All my friend’s comments wind up in my spam box too.

And Hanni, I’ve written Akismet a few days ago and still no response from them. This sucks because WP is my all time favorite blogging platform! And it would be 100% perfect if commenting were possible!

Even when I comment on my husband’s blog, I then have to log out – then log into his account to grab my comment out of the spam bag because my husband isn’t that savvy with the internet and he gets confused easily.

This is odd because I’ve been using WP for about 6 weeks now. I’ve only started having this problem for the last 10 days or so. This is about the same time my blog invitations stopped working as well. Two people have invited me to their blog, but I still cannot access them.

Maybe these two bugs are related somehow? I feel like my account is possessed. And the fact that this isn’t happening to most people makes this problem all the more frustrating!!

You know what I mean? If you can’t comment on people’s blogs, it defeats the purpose of blogging to a degree.

No, it’s not theory, it’s what actually worked for me.

I had one friend who uses a WP.com blog email WP support, using the clickable link on the (right side of your) dashboard. I was de-spammed shortly after. When I noticed it happening to other people I know (they were ending up in my spam bin for no reason) I then sent one support request on their behalf in, and they then, were un-spammed.

You don’t have to do it that way of course, but it sure solved my problem for real… not just in theory.

    ;-)

    Good luck.

I read your comment in the other thread and am just coming back to tell you I’ve just un-spammed you from my spam bin, screen-capped it and sent it in as a support ticket to ask them to un-spam you. Because of a few other things going on right now according to what’s on the board here, they may be a bit busy… but I have great faith that they will un-spam you like they did for me and a couple of my regular readers.

One other thing to note (though it doesn’t apply in your case, someone else might be reading and it may help them) is that if a blogger chose a user name that’s similar to what spammers use, like an initial and a number (R-16 for example and I did know someone who used a different initial then a dash and a number) askimet sees that as typical of spam and will identify that as spam. The user I knew changed her name to something longer and less spam-like, and her problem went away.

Come back to my blog after a bit and comment again to see if you’re un-spammed. I’ll make a point of checking my bin every day for a while until you are.
