one restricted page, one unrestricted page

    Hi,

Sorry for the newbie question, I am very new to WordPress and related applications.

    1. I have many restricted as well as unrestricted articles. I would like authorized people to have access to restricted and unrestricted articles, while unauthorized people to see only the unrestricted articles. For that I utilize the user’s roles to grant access to the appropriate articles.

    2. I have many article categories, say, category U for unrestricted articles, and category R as well as sub-categories R1, R2, Rn for restricted articles. For that I utilize the built-in WordPress article categories.

    3. I would like to set a page where ONLY the restricted articles appear. Also, I would like the “recent articles” and “recent comments” menu in the side column to show ONLY the restricted articles. IN Appearence<Widgets, it is possible to modify the layout but not to select restricted/unrestricted articles. Currently, authorized people see all articles in the side column. If the last published articles are unrestricted ones, those will appear in the side column while the page is meant for restricted articles. In other words, the restricted page is filled with all kinds of articles and that ruins the purpose of the page.

    4. Ideally, I would like, in addition to the restricted page, another UNrestricted page where only unrestricted articles appear. Authorized people would have the choice of entering the restricted or the unrestricted page and reading the appropriate articles, according to their wish.

    OPTIONAL
    5. In the best of the worlds, I would like articles to appear in list/table-like manner, with on the title (or title with the excerpt) so that users can see all (many) articles in that specific category, and choose according. Currently, articles appear in full one under the other, which is tedious to scan through them.

I am not sure how to handle the problem. Can the plugin Members solve it? Or should I that combine it with another plugin? Is there a simpler way to do it? I am a bit lost.
    Guidance would be warmly appreciated.

Note: my sincere apologies if there is any misuse of language, English is not my native tongue.

  • Hi there,

On what site are you working? The account you’re using to post here does not own any sites on WordPress.com.

If you’re using the open source WordPress software at another host, please ask for help at https://wordpress.org/support/forums instead.

I would like authorized people to have access to restricted and unrestricted articles, while unauthorized people to see only the unrestricted articles.

You would need a Membership plugin to do this, yes, but the answers to your other questions would depend on exactly what membership plugin you’re using. For those questions, please contact support for the specific plugins you’re considering directly. We cannot help with that here in the WordPress.com forums.
