One sentence excerpt?
-
I’m hoping to format my sitemap, blog feed, and pages listing articles in a particular category like this:
Title
Tagline – one sentence description of articleIt looks like WP uses excerpts to perform the tagline function? Do I have any control over the excerpt? For example, could I limit the excerpt to the first sentence of the article?
Here’s a specific example. You’ve taught me how to use shortcode, and so now I have pages which automatically list all articles in a particular category. I would like to format those pages like this:
TITLE (linked to article)
TAGLINE – one sentence describing articleTITLE (linked to article)
TAGLINE – one sentence describing articleetc
I think the question here may be, what control do I have over excerpts?
Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi @nukeban, sure, you can control excerpts for each post as you like:
Also, I just wanted to note there’s a post list block available now so you don’t have to use shortcodes for everything. It’s very new and there are some bugs to iron out with older themes like yours, but you might like it. Or you can just add
include_excerpt="true"to your shortcode.Hoping this helps!

Aha! I see the excerpts panel now, thank you.
Excerpts are now working on the pages I’ve set up to be a listing of all posts in a category. And on the search results page. Neato.
Ideally, I’d also like to use excerpts (instead of the full article) on my blog feed page. Is this possible? I’ve settled on theme Wilson if that helps.
Hmm, the control panel says blog feed page can not be edited or deleted. No big deal I guess. Should I assume the blog feed page is a fixed feature beyond my control?
Thanks again.

Hi there,

To truncate the text from the blog feed page, I’d recommend using the more tag:
This allows you to truncate your blog entries displayed on your homepage, posts pages, and in subscriber emails.

Correct – Since the content of your latest posts page is automatically generated whenever you publish a new blog post, it cannot be edited.
Hope this helps!
