One time discounts are for the FIRST year only?

I see that I have a “One time discount” to change my blog “EL PASEANTE”, from a “Free” to a “Personal” plan.

My question is: this 50% discount will be permanent (and the following year will continue to apply) or is it only applicable to the first year (but the next year I would pay 4 euros/month, instead of 2 euros/month).

I suppose this is only for the first year (because the “One time…”) but prefer to be sure!

    Thank you very much!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    It’s a ONE TIME discount.

Sorry, but that “One Time” is ambiguous.

    A. Does it mean that only now, for a few weeks or months, will that discount be available? (“One time” = only now, that discount)

    B. Or does it mean that it will only apply for the first year? (“One Time” = only the first year )?

    C. Or maybe both things? (I’m pretty sure is this, but not 100% sure…)

This is not an absurd question. To give an example: HBO launched a promotion for a few months where the subscription was 50% Only available for a short period of time (“One time”) but it was FOREVER.

I have a suspicion that in this case this discount will only apply for a certain promotion time and for the first year only, but not the following years. This is: C

But in any case it would be nice to have an official clarification.

There is an ancient saying: “Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth”. I assume the offer you’ve seen applies to the purchase of an annual plan. Therefore, chances are, in a year’s time your renewal will be back to the regular price. And in 11 months time as well as renewing the plan there will be the additional cost of renewing your custom domain (which would be free for the first year with an annual plan).

Yes, in Spanish we also have a similar saying: “a caballo regalado no le mires el diente” (“don’t look a gift horse in the mouth”)

But it happens that things always have several points of view:

On the one hand I have my professional website, for which I pay very willingly to use a Premium Plan, even I wouldn’t mind paying for a Business one, although at the moment I don’t need it either.

But on the other hand I have a second website to post the photos of my mountain trips. This is an activity of my free time… and the truth is, I prefer not to have to pay for it, so with the “Free” version I have enough.

But as I HATE advertising in my blog, it turns out that for this second site I also pay for an Add-On that allows to remove adds.

That Add-On is 2 euros per month. And I have it paid until JULY 2025. And I repeat: with the Free version I have enough.

As a detail: the Personal plan already includes “Add-free experience”. But normally it costs 4 euros.

Seeing that now there is a promotion for the Personal plan for 2 euros, I was considering switching to that plan and stop paying in July 2025 for the Add-On “No Adds”.

But of course: if in one year the Personal plan goes from 2 to 4 euros … then I do not see the interest. Because I repeat: I have enough with the Free + Ad-Free plan (total: 2 euros/month).

No problem: for the time being, I’ll stay as I am!

Of course, if one day I exceed the capacity of the Free Plan, then I will switch to the Personal Plan (cost 2 euros or cost 2).

Anyway, sorry for the text rambling, but it was to explain my doubts! 🤪

Correction: Of course, if one day I exceed the capacity of the Free Plan, then I will switch to the Personal Plan (cost 2 euros or cost 4).

And you are lucky in other respects. The option of a free plan without ads for 2 euros is no longer available to new users. You can continue to benefit from it, so long as you don’t let that expire. If it expired and you wanted it again, even a few hours/days later it would not be available. Also if you have had your free site for a few years you will have 3GB storage for your photos. New sites only get 1GB. Here’s another ancient saying that no doubt has a Spanish equivalent: WordPress.com are forever moving the goal posts.
