Onely renew the domain/Renouveller seuleument le nom de domaine
-
Hello,
I’ve got a website : lexquisetrouvaille.com and I’m on the wordpress.com platform for now. I would like to migrate my website to wordpress.org so that I can add an e-commerce plugin.
I would like to do so before paying the renewal of my “WordPress.com Premium” extension. My question is : Can I only renew my domain name or is it mandatory to renew the “WordPress.com Premium” extension to keep my domain name ?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
You can certainly renew just the domain name, without renewing WordPress.com Premium. :) You can do that on your My Upgrades page. Under WordPress.com Premium, you can click on “Cancel this upgrade.” That will allow you to renew just the domain, without renewing the Premium upgrade.
If you have any trouble with that, please let me know and I can help you with the process.
I also wanted to mention, in case you’re interested in staying at WordPress.com, that WordPress.com Business includes e-commerce options. That would allow you to add e-commerce to your site without moving it to WordPress.org.
Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

Thank you very much for your really helpful answer :)
If I did well understand :
– Using WordPress.com Business has for pros that I don’t need to move from .com to .org and for cons the price : €240 per year.
– Moving to WordPress.org has for pros that this is free (except for the new host cots) and for cons I have to do the migrationAm I right or is there any other thing that I didn’t take into account ?

Yes, that’s right! There are some other differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org that you might want to consider before moving your site, but those are the main differences between setting up e-commerce here at WordPress.com or with WordPress.org. :)

Thank you !
Just one more question then. You said that there are some other differences between .com and .org and I read the link you add to your answer. But is the .org platform as easy as the .com platform is ?
Because for now I deal with the website administration but in a few months it will be someone else who is not very familiar with all the technology. What do you think of it ? -
Hi there,
Rachel is out for a few days, so I am helping out with her tickets.
You ask a very good question and there is not a simple answer to it.
WordPress.com and WordPress.org are very similar in how they look and how they behave. If you give WordPress.org a try, you will notice (for example) that you have some additional options which you didn’t have before, and that is why many people use WordPress.org instead of .com.
However there are more responsibilities with WordPress.org. You have to keep it up to date yourself through the updater, you are responsible if anything breaks, and there is no centralized help department if you have questions. There IS a forum of volunteers at http://wordpress.org/support/ however, so you are not entirely without assistance!
So in short, there are things which make WordPress.org much more powerful, but with that power it can also be more intimidating.
