Online Store – Plugin

  I want to start an online store and I saw online that I could do that for free but I have to install a plugin, but it appears that I’m not allowed to do that for free. Is this true or am I missing something?

  I have a domain name, do I first have to pay WordPress to host it for me to get plugins?

  Hi Curt,

  Plugins aren’t permitted on WordPress.com for security reasons. What some people do is have an Etsy or similar store and link to it from their blog (through a Text widget in the sidebar, or a menu tab, and/or even map a subdomain to the store).

  But if you want to create an e-commerce website with shopping cart functionality, then you’ll want to move to a self-hosted WordPress site so you can use those plugins.

  To move your blog to a self-hosted site, you’ll first need to obtain web hosting. We have some recommendations here:
