Only partially listed in Reader
-
Hi – Is someone able to advise whether posts for the above site are displaying correctly in Reader?
In the general search I can make the site appear on the right hand side, but not individual posts.
And when I do a tag search for a tag I know the site should be listing for (eg ナチュラルコスメ) the posts are nowhere to be seen.
Not sure whether it’s related to the fact that the site is hosted in one country, but targets users in another, speaking a different language, or some other reason. If it’s just configuration then would appreciate a hand being shown where I should be setting it to Japanese but I feel that since the site itself appears in the general search that it’s set up correctly, just not displaying posts.
Site is self-hosted but running Jetpack. Have seen a couple of other similar issues but I’ve got the added complexity of languages/countries so wanted to reach out to the pros.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Good morning –
Thanks for getting in touch.
We have seen some similar things in the past with different languages.
To start, I ran the site through our Jetpack debug tool, just to make sure everything is in tip top shape, and it is :)
Next, I’m going to ask our team that works exclusively on Reader to have a look at this for you. Once I hear back from them I’ll provide an update.
A few questions:
– Is ナチュラルコスメ the only tag that’s not working? If there are others please share.
– What are the titles of the affected posts? If I think of any other questions I’ll come back and ask.
-
Hi Liz – thank you for getting back to me on the above.
Regarding tags that aren’t working, I’m still trying to find one that *does* work. Some more examples from the most recent posts:
ヌードバイネイチャー
日本未発売
くすみ
ブロンズ肌
ジヒドロキシアセトン
セルフタンニングBasically *all* posts are affected. I cannot use search to find a single post from the blog. The only way I can find the blog is by entering “Careela” directly into the search bar, and then it only appears on the left, under “Site”
Looking forward to the update from the Reader team. Please let me know if you need any other info.

Could you give us a link to a couple posts that you know do not show up? I’ve looked back through a couple of the tags you gave and do not see any of your posts, but we can also search by post URL, which many help us in narrowing things down.
-
Hi thesacredpath – thanks for taking a look. Here’s a URL for a recent article:
https://careela.com.au/new-products/nudebynature-ヌードバイネイチャー-リップ-コスメ/
You can get some more from /blog/
For all the ones I have tried, even searching for the title in Reader doesn’t bring up the article itself.

@justanovic, I have contacted our developers on this so they can look into it for you and we will report back as soon as we here something.
A question for you though, I see that you have changed the permalink structure on posts to /new-products/ . I’m not sure if this is the issue or not, but it sounds like you may be having this issue with other sites as well, is that correct? If so, do they also have custom permalink structures for the posts rather than the default date permalink structure?
-
Hi thesacredpath – the site uses the “custom” permalink structure option, and it is set to:
/%category%/%postname%/
I’m sorry if I gave the impression that I was having this issue on othe sites. At the moment I am only referring to the one site above. But I have used the above permalink structure on other sites (but haven’t checked whether they are in Reader)

Thank you for the update. We’ll let you know as soon as we hear back from our developers.

Hi @justanovic, at this time, our search system only indexes Jetpack sites that are on a paid upgrade plan, not those on the free plan.
In addition, we do run all posts through our system to test for certain keywords since we try and keep our tags pages as family friendly as possible, and there are several of your posts that have the word “nude” in them, which happens to be one of the keywords that will keep the post from showing in the tags pages.
If someone is following your site, your posts will show up in their reader feed although they will not be able to search and find them.
-
Hi @thesacredpath – omg I’m sorry I didn’t realise that the site needs a paid plan! I assume this info is available from within the Jetpack interface, will check it out now.
And thanks for the heads up on “nude.” I assume that applies “per post”? ie it won’t affect the entire blog and its listing in the Reader app.
The site had some traffic out of the blue from the WordPress Reader app a month or so ago, and so I thought I’d take a look and see how the site was listing. When I couldn’t get it to list I started troubleshooting, but it turns out it was just due to the site not being on a paid plan.
Thanks again for your help!! I’ll speak with the owners and see if they are keen to try the paid plan and report back if it still doesn’t work.
-
Hi justanovic,
No need to apologise :)
And thanks for the heads up on “nude.” I assume that applies “per post”? ie it won’t affect the entire blog and its listing in the Reader app.
The site itself will still be visible in the Reader but posts containing “nude” will not be shown in searches or tag pages. This Jetpack Reader documentation may be useful for more information about how paid (Jetpack) plans affect a self hosted site’s visibility in the Reader.
You’re welcome to get in touch again if you have any questions after speaking to the owners.
