Open image widget url in a new window

  The image widget has a box for a link url, but how do I ensure this link opens in a new window? Eg an html link in the text might be . The image widget link would then be typed as ‘http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erik_Satie’, but I can’t find a way of ensuring this opens the image in a new window. I have tried appending various forms of ‘target=”blank”‘ but with no success so far. Surely there is a way to do this?

  Use a text widget instead of an image widget.

  I’ve thought of that but it means a fair amount of work. Surely there’s a better way!

  It’s easy to make a text widget if you compose it like a post in the write post box. That way you use the visual editor to do all the formatting, then click to the Text editor, copy the code, and paste that in the widget. As long as you remember the widget is narrow, it’s not hard.
