OpenID Consumer and Server

    WordPress forums do a lot of stuff that wouldn’t fly on other forums, like using crappy homemade software and not bothering with moderation.

    Someone please explain, in words of one or fewer syllables, how I can make my name a link to my WordPress blog when leaving comments on a Blogger/Blogspot blog. I can make it a link to one of my three gmail accounts. I can make it a link to one of my three Blogspot blogs. But I do not know how to make it a link to my WordPress.com blog.

    first OpenID-based commenting should be enabled at the http://draft.blogger.com

    Dashboard > Settings > Comments:
    Who Can Comment? — “Registered Users – includes OpenID”

    then “users of OpenID-enabled services — such as LiveJournal and WordPress — can comment on such blog using their accounts from those sites, rather than with Blogger/Google accounts”.

    So each Blogger blog owner has to specifically enable this? I see. Thanks for that.

    @raincoaster

    If you want to test comment, I’ve just made a post about it. And OpenID is enabled on my blog. :-)

    Done! Thanks, this is what I get:

    Your comment has been saved and will be visible after blog owner approval.

    Seemed painless enough. But how to get the word to Blogger bloggers?

    It’s approved and works.

    Seemed painless enough. But how to get the word to Blogger bloggers?

    Well that is where Blogger fell down big time. They didn’t communicate this very well. All most people know is that anonymous links have been removed. Word is slowly spreading, but only after the torches have been lit.

    That was a great, very thorough post you did. I’ve already dropped the link on a couple of blogs. Thanks for walking us through this.

    @wank:

    “WordPress forums …. not bothering with moderation.”

    I respond to each and every modlook tag. If there is something else you think I should be doing then please spell it out – you keep saying this so I am obviously missing these huge issues.

  • Unknown's avatar

    I can’t add modlook tags to closed threads.

    I think Trent did exactly the right thing by just closing that thread.
    He’s a mod, he looked and he did something – the same thing I would have done.

    I can see why that thread could be changed / edited / deleted but it is not something I would do.

    This is probably a difference in how you and I think the forum should be ‘run’ and if you want to debate this by email that’s okay, but I do not think the forum is the place to do that.

    And I’m an email away – if you use irc I’m in #wordpress.com on freenode – the support link can be clicked – every hour google reader checks for modlook

    For the record what remains in this and other threads is the evidence required for a libelous defamation of character suit.

    Back on topic now…

    The “Other” URL field

    Right now, the only way to add a URL to your name when commenting is to sign your comment with OpenID. We apologize for removing the URL field from the comments form prematurely two weeks ago. That was a mistake on our part that came from launching OpenID support on Blogger in draft.

    But now, OpenID commenting is on globally, as soon as blog owners enable the option.

    Three cheers…
