Opening a site

  • Unknown's avatar

I need help! My problem is so specific, and it’s frustrating that there is not any kind of service, where I can ask the questions directly, before I get started with my new website. I want to delete 4 sites completely. It was so confusing that ‘it’ kept opening new accounts. I only need 1 account, but I want to start over completely. Is this possible? Will it be possible to use my e-mail as log-in again, if I delete the sites I created (by mistake)…?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

I know it can be quite confusing sometimes but I’ll try to explain –

You have a WordPress.com account on this page –
    https://wordpress.com/me/account

And your account can have multiple WordPress.com sites linked to it, which can be found on this page –
    https://wordpress.com/sites

If you wish to keep just one site and delete other sites, you can do so. But note that, once a site is deleted. It is permanent. That means you can no longer get the same URL (at least not for 2 years).

So you can switch to any site and then delete it.

All instructions for deletion are available here –

    Delete a Website

Thank you so much for this information.
What I don’t understand is, how these sites got opened. I wanted to choose a specific theme “Oxford” and a “business plan”. Plus I need to transfer a domain which I bought a different place already. I typed in all this information. But it didn’t transfer although the system proceeded as if it worked. But instead it opened new sites with a wordpress address.
Maybe the solution could be to use one of the accounts, that have already been created and then 1/ transfer the domain, 2/ choose the correct theme and 3/ the business plan. Do you think this would be possible, and do you know how I could do it?
Once again thank you for your help.

    Hmm.. Ok!

I checked Oxford is a premium them and Business plan gives you free access to all premium themes.

If you only wish to purchase a premium theme and stay on the free plan, you can purchase the theme here –
    https://wordpress.com/themes/oxford/

But if you wish to purchase the theme as well as the business plan then you only need to purchase the business plan (as you will automatically get access to all premium themes).

Visit this page to upgrade to any plan of your choice –
    https://wordpress.com/plans

And then you can map the domain you already own by following these instructions –
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

    Quote from that page –

Each paid plan comes with a free domain credit you can use to either register a new domain or map one you already own.

So based on your question –

Maybe the solution could be to use one of the accounts, that have already been created and then 1/ transfer the domain, 2/ choose the correct theme and 3/ the business plan. Do you think this would be possible, and do you know how I could do it?

The correct sequence would be –
    1) Upgrade to a plan
    2) Map a domain
    3) Set the theme

Let us know if this helps :)
