Opening link in a new tab requires extra clicks
-
3 weeks today and the problem is still there, yet it was “important” that they make us click an extra button to turn text into a link that opens in a new window. Why? That button only gives us that option. It’s not like there are other things it offers. That button was where the “open in a new window” button had been. Why make it harder to do that? Is that streamlined? WordPress, HELLOOOOOO, where are you? I’m sure we’ll get seven more pointless updates that make things worse before this ad issue is resolved, if ever.

@randomdude9 , @bookstooge , we appreciate you confirming your cases and sharing your feedback. I’ve just made sure your cases are on the bug report, and I understand you’re frustrated that it’s taking a while. Speculation about nefarious motives is less helpful though, so let’s leave that out of our community. Our developers have their plates full right now and are doing their best to work through requests.

@randomdude9 I’d like to understand more about this issue. It sounds like a bug, and like it is not related to the fivver card being stuck. If you are willing, please create one new thread with more details. Thanks!

@randomdude9 — just noting I did some testing for the new tab stuff, and I see what you mean. Looks like a recent change in Gutenberg, which comes from the WordPress core community. It would still be best to follow this up with a separate forums topic, but do know we’re asking around about that.

@supernovia It’s not a bug, it’s an update. I’ve brought things like this up before and I’m always told to just deal with it or ignored completely, so I won’t bother. I’ve been with WP for over a decade and things just keep getting more complicated than they need to be. I’m sorry I vented, won’t happen again. I’ll stay away from “support.”

@randomdude9 , any updates you’ll see are almost always due to somebody’s feedback and ideas. The most helpful feedback focuses on your experience in the product: what you are doing, what you expected, what happened instead, how that affects what you’re working on, and how it could go better.

@randomdude9 , I’ve split this comment into a new thread so I can respond without bothering the rest of the people in the thread with info they did not ask for, but as a follow-up:
- Some types of links do have other options (choosing a page, a social icon, etc) and that’s why that new settings icon is there
- We shared your feedback and a few other cases where people had similar thoughts (yours expressed it in a way that we understood the issue, so thanks!) and it looks like the “open in new tab” option will be moved back so it’s easy to access. It won’t be immediate, but it’s on the list.
Thanks again for the feedback.
