Opening photos in a new window
-
In the previous version of WordPress, I could edit my photos (http://jherring.wordpress.com) but there now appears to be no option to do this i.e. you can’t click on a photo and be offered editing options, including opening in a new window. I posted a question before and was offered HTML advice. I tried this and it didn’t work. So what’s the solution? Best wishes, James

Hi, there.
You can still get to the classic editor, at this link.
http://jherring.wordpress.com/wp-admin
Click on “Posts” in the left sidebar, and then choose the post to edit. When you click on an image in that editor, you’ll see the edit button pop up in the tool bar above the image.
The “open in new tab” checkbox is in advanced options.
I hope this helps.

Thanks for the tip re the classic editor. I wonder why the “advanced” editor doesn’t have this feature – or is it hidden away somewhere?

Just tried the classic editor and checked the box to pen photos in new tab. It didn’t work. Suggestions please?

This may sound like a silly question, but did you click to update the post once you made the change?
The only other option I know is to add target=”_blank” into the html for the link.

Yes, I did click “Update”. I was previously advised to add target=”_blank” to the HTML but I’m not sure where to put it e.g. [caption id="attachment_2940" align="alignnone" width="681"]<img class=”wp-image-2940 size-full” src=”https://jherring.files.wordpress.com/2016/01/tft-2.jpg” alt=”TFT 2″ width=”681″ height=”1024″ /> Monkfish at The French Table[/caption]
This is the HTML from a photo from my latest posting at https://jherring.wordpress.com/2016/01/20/the-french-table-and-kalamkari-exhibition/
Thanks again for your help. James -
Okay, I think I know what the problem is.
You have to also create a link.
When you’re in the classic editor, and you click to edit the image, under “Display Settings” there’s a dropdown that says “Link To.” If you want it to open the original image, then set it to “Media File.”
Again, don’t forget to update the page after you do that.
Does that work for you?

YAY! Glad that worked.
I added your blog to my Feedly, by the way. I’ve never been to your side of the pond. Very much enjoy reading about your adventures.
