I need to migrate my blog and want to be sure I have all the information I need before I attempt this.
How do I know what WordPress operating system I am on? In reading other of other people’s experiences in migrating this seems to be an issue underlying success….
ThanksThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

WordPress.com and WordPress.com run on different software. That being said we can export content out of free hosted WordPress.com blogs and into WordPress.org self hosted installs quite easily, and we can easily export and import content from one WordPress.com blog to another.
export
import
export/import links
All content in text widgets must be moved by copy and paste. -
Many thanks. Just to be clear, when I go to ‘export’ the blog, does a copy of the existing stay on wordpress until I delete it?
Also with regard to migrating images, I obviously would prefer to move the blog in it’s entirety ( including images ) so how do I ensure that my blog is ‘serving images properly’? -

Yes – you are creating a copy.
Also with regard to migrating images
When you import the file you will see a query that asks if you want the attachments (images) to be included.

When you export the blog it doesn’t do anything to the blog, just copies the information into a file that you store on your computer.

Many thanks yo you both. So – dare I say – it sounds easier than I thought. I just export / copy the blog to my computer and then import the information to Media Temple…. If I have a nervous breakdown later I’ll come back to you….!
