  Another newbie to WP! So far so good though! BUT, how do I add an opt-in for people to sign up for my free fitness e-book on the sidebar?

  I would either use a text widget with an (obscured) email address, or I would make a special page for the e-book and put a contact form on that page. You can simply leave that as a link in your Pages, or you can make a text widget with some kind of “Get my e-book” text and/or image in the sidebar.
