Opting Out of Guttenberg
-
I have a friend who is experiencing constant frustration with your new Gutenberg editor. It’s not easy for him at all. It’s a rip roarin’ pain in the ass. In short, it sucks! And that’s being kind. Yes it IS a friend. It’s NOT me. You made the switch for him and he doesn’t want. He wants to go back to Classic editor. How does he opt out of Gutenberg to go back to Classic?

Install the Classic Editor Plugin ( https://wordpress.org/plugins/classic-editor/ )
It will give him/her back the classic editor.
Your only other alternatives are:
- Stick to WordPress prior to about version 4.9
- Use an alternative such as https://www.classicpress.net/

Hi @30dizzy34 with the move to the Block Editor as default on WordPress.com (you can read more about that in this blog post), your friend should be able to:
1. Use the Classic Block, which emulates the Classic Editor experience, as described here: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/classic-block/2. Or navigate to his WPcom site’s WP Admin dashboard (yoursite.wordpress.com/wp-admin/) and use the Classic Editor there
https://wordpress.com/support/editors/#classic-editorWhat we see in our WPAdmin dashboard now is the Classic Editor plugin installed and provided to us by WPcom. We do not need to upgrade to add it to our WPcom sites and it is only possible to have that plugin installed in WPAdmin. Were it not for that plugin, we would be using the Block Editor there, just like the WP software does.
If he doesn’t see those options, please have him post back here and let us know.
@oitconz Hi there and welcome to volunteering in the community forums for free websites hosted on the WordPress.com platform. To help you get the most out of your experience helping WPcom users, Staff have written up a guide, which you can find here: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-com-volunteers/Cheers.
