Option to return to Classic Editor is gone
-
I noticed that the option to switch back to the Classic Editor is missing form the BBB interface. How do I get that back?

http://cloudislands.com/ us not hosted by WordPress.COM. You must be referring to another blog that is hosted by WordPress.COM. What is the URL?

Yes, I have several WordPress.COM blogs. My avatar is linked to another site. My question is not about one specific blog: this behavior is happening with all of my blogs.

Thanks. Will you try these links please?

timethief, thank you for your help. I probably should have explained in more detail but I was hoping for a straightforward answer.
OK, the long question. I have several WP.com blogs, some are personal, some I use when I teach WordPress classes (like http://wplopez.wordpress.com/). This week I was teaching a class about how to use WP.com. I noticed that several of the students, when they set up new blogs and were directed to the BBB page, did NOT have the option to “switch to classic mode.” I ran a few tests this morning using several of my own WP.com blogs, and this is what I found:
1. When I clicked the New Post link from the admin bar, I was taken directly to BBB with the option to switch back to classic.
2. When I clicked the Post > New Post link from the sidebar, I was taken to Classic Mode. If I switched to BBB I still had the option to switch back, but if I did the same process again I was taken to Classic Editor. So it appears that I could continue to post using the Classic Editor, but only if I went through the Sidebar link.
3. I tried another blog, and I DID see the option to switch to classic. Instead of switching back, I clicked the “X” next to the option of switching back, dismissing the message.
4. Now, ALL my blogs have lost the link option to switch back to the Classic editor from the BBB screen.
Conclusion One: It seems as though when I dismissed the option to switch back to Classic Editor I lost the option forever, as all of my blogs are using this same BBB interface.
Conclusion Two: New users are no longer being given the option to switch back to Classic Editor, which may be a sneaky way of getting around the promise “We have no plans to permanently remove the classic editor from the dashboard.” If users are no longer given the option to switch back from BBB screen, most people will give up and use it.
Long story short, here’s the meat of my question: How do I recover the ability to switch back to Classic mode once I have opted out, or if the option never appears on the BBB screen?

Re the links you sent me:

https://adrienneadams.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.php returns Classic editor.

I’m surprised that once you used the classic editor that the software did not remember that. Perhaps you are using different computers and browsers to access your blogs and that’s why the software is not returning you to the classic editor.
Thanks so much for the detailed response. I’m sure Staff will find it helpful when they get to this thread. Please be patient while waiting.

Thanks timethief. To clarify:
The issue is NOT that my preference is (or is not) saved; the issue is the absence of the option to switch back to Classic Editor.

Hi there,
Can you please try clearing out your cache and cookies using the guide below?
Then restart you browser. That should bring back the option to switch back to the Classic editor.
Cheers!
