Options For Adding WordPress Blog to Website
-
I recently completed video tutorials on Lynda.com for both the WordPress.com and WordPress.org blog options.
I discovered that it is possible to upgrade a WordPress.com blog to have a user defined domain name. I also learned that the WordPress.org download is designed for use with a user defined domain name and adds plug-in functionality, but it also requires some knowledge of code to navigate through the setup process.
I am new to blogging and know nothing about code, so I am tempted to use the WordPress.com upgrade option. I also don’t think I will need plug-ins, at least not yet. I will be adding my blog to a Go Daddy domain that I already own.
What are the pros and cons (and costs) of each option? Please advise. Thanks.

This question has been previously asked on more than one occasion and there will be searchbox results if you do searches. However, I think Staff has already provided an excellent summary pf the differences in features and the pros and cons and here’s the link to it. http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Thank you so much for the links. They answered my questions and I feel I can make a more educated decision about what route to take.
I am not intending to blog for money, but rather to add a blog as a subdomain to my existing website to enhance the SEO for my website. I also don’t want to have to worry about the technical aspects of setting up and running a blog, so the WordPress.com upgrade option seems best for me.
The links to your blog mentioned losing page rank for 4-6 months if you move your existing WordPress.com blog to another URL. Thanks for the heads up, I will be sure to pay for the upgrade on my new blog from the start to avoid this setback. I have also subscribed to your blog via RSS. Thanks again.
