Options for displaying website in multiple languages

My primary website is translathea, written in Croatian. I need a website translated/displayed in English as well. As far as I could find, the only way to do this with the free version, which I have; is the way I did it: to create another website with a link to this website in the menu. I did this following your instructions.
If I decide to pick a paid version of a website, is there a way to do this without two websites? In this case, do I have to pay for both websites and pick a plan for both or can one version (the English one, remain free), or do I pay only for one website and a paid plan will provide me with a way to be able to display my site both in Croatian and English? I just need to be able to display it in two languages. I will do the translating myself.
    Thank you

  • Hi there, depending on your needs, you could purchase a Business plan and use a multilingual plugin to create the “languge switching” function (as you said, you would do the translation yourself, but a plugin like this lets visitors easily find the pages you translate).

This search shows some of the multilingual plugins available:
    https://wordpress.com/plugins?s=multilingual

You can technically create the two language “sections” on your site without making use of a plugin (and without needing a second dedicated site) but it does take some work – when using a theme compatible with the Site Editor you could set up default template for your Croatian pages with a menu in Croatian, and then an alternative page template for your pages in English with the menu in English.

There isn’t a dedicated tutorial for this at the moment however! If you are interested in learning more about the site editor, and templates, then perhaps these guides can be useful:

Alternatively if you wish to have a second site in English, it can absolutely be a free site; but I should note that the free site would be limited to free features, and would have a “.wordpress.com” address.
