Options in gallery full sized images?

I’ve inserted several photo galleries on pages in my blog and they look great in the thumbnail size but when you click on a thumbnail it brings up a full sized photo which feels a little too close up for the already close-up images of my pysanky eggs. Is there a setting I can change so the gallery will bring up a medium sized image instead of the full sized one?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

When you click on a clickable thumbnail, it brings up the original you have uploaded. If you don’t like the size, upload smaller images.

Or, since “they look great in the thumbnail size”, don’t make the thumbnails clickable. (Select “None” instead of “File URL” when inserting the images; for images already inserted in your posts, click on them, click the mountain icon that shows up, click “None” below “Link URL”, click Update.)

So that means I have to upload all the photos in a smaller size in order to have the thumbnail from the gallery open up into a medium sized photo? That’s a ton or work. I was hoping for a setting I could change once and have it apply to the whole gallery.

You really, really, really, do not want WP resizing larger images (other than creating thumbnails) if you care about image quality. WordPress simply doesn’t have the resampling horsepower to do a really good job. They are better now than they were 6 months or a year ago, but still there is degradation.

My suggestion is to always prepare your images in a good image editing program resampling and resizing them before you upload them.

    BTW, stunning artwork.

Thanks for the kidos and thanks for the input. I’ll get busy resizing.
