Hi Sian,
Can you explain a bit more about what kind of “linking” you’re looking to do? If you’re looking to have a blog and have the same content on each, I would recommend you stick to one or the other instead. Google and other search engines penalize authors for having duplicate content spread out over the internet. However, if you’re looking to have two different blogs focused on different content, that’s definitely possible.
Let me know a bit about what you’re looking to do, and I’ll be able to provide better instruction moving forward!

I wanted a company website where I can hold the generic information, and an application form & event information, and then a blog where I just post pictures. I am not certain on my domain name yet, so wanted to hold out on paying for a website, and thought I could just start the blog, to get it going, on .com, as I work on there at the moment.
2nd question : I presume a .org site is best for the main website, so I can link in Eventbrite style ticketing and the application form etc ?

Hi Sian,
Ah – now I understand a bit better. Perhaps the best option would be to setup a domain on your self-hosted site. Then, you could map a subdomain like blog.mydomain.com to your WordPress.com site following the instructions here:

Does that make sense?

That’s definitely an option. Having your main site on self-hosted servers allows you to get your hands dirty with plugins and backend code. The things you mention can be done on WordPress.com. However, you wouldn’t have as much flexibility. For one, you could add a custom menu link to your Eventbrite page as explained here:
Then, you could add a contact form as explained here:

I believe that would match the functionality you’re looking for. Just an option!
