.org or .com

    I’m confused, I want to start a website – should I use wordpress.com or wordpress.org?
All I really want to do is me and friends (possibly 14 different writers) to upload stories.
Can I use wordpress.com and just pay a domain name or is this stupid? Should I use wordpress.org?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi!

You can use either – it very much depends on what kind of functionality you’d like your blog to have.

If what you’re primarily after is adding your friends as contributors/authors of your site, that’s easily doable with WordPress.com. Take a look at this link: https://en.support.wordpress.com/adding-users/

As far as paying for a domain name, that’s up to you. If you really don’t want the ‘WordPress’ part in your address, you can always purchase a custom domain for $18.00 per year. You can learn more about that here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/register-domain/

    Hope that helps!

Hi! It really does help! Thank you.
Am I limited to just 10 friends though? I was hoping to entice and bribe my friends to join and may go up to 30?
Is it worth getting bluehost and use wordpress.org? What benefits is this? Other than design

Can I use wordpress.com and transfer down the track? I heard I couldn’t!
    Thanks Geekinthegirl!

    No problem, you’re welcome :)

I don’t think there’s an upper limit to adding editors/contributors, as far as I’m aware? I’m sure someone will jump in if I’m wrong, but it looks like you can keep adding as many as you like.

If you’d like to weigh up what .com and .org both have to offer, take a look at this post – it’s a nicely laid out comparison between the two: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

And if you’d rather go with WordPress.com for now, of course you can transfer to .org later :) more on that here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/
