Hi,
Follow these steps to create a sub-menu:
1. Go to My Site(s) → Customize(Beside the Themes option) or just click here: https://wordpress.com/customize/. This will open the site Customizer.
2. On the sidebar of the Customizer click on the Menus > tab.
3. Click the Primary > tab.
4. Now, to create a sub-menu then just click and drag the menu under the menu item of which you want this menu item to be sub-menu of.
5. Once everything is done, click Save & Publish. You can read more about adding custom menu items and creating sub-menus here:

dchhinsley: it looks as though you have created your parent and child Menus. Do I understand correctly that you now want to organize your posts (not pages) under these menu items?
The most effective way to get your posts correctly under your menu topics is to use categories for your posts. And add the Category-pages menu option.
Read more about it here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/category-pages/You don’t have to add all your categories to the menu; just those that you want to provide menu level access.
Taking this approach your Idea Chapters menu item could link to your category chapters-ideas pulling them all together as on this page.

Thank you very much for the help! I believe I’ve sorted it out now. Your assistance was much appreciated.
