Organizing blog posts

Hi. I have had this site for a while, but do not use very often. But there is one thing that I have not been able to figure out how to do and cannot seem to find the answer on my own. So help, please!
I use the site to blog about road trips I take. So, I would like to have my blog posts separated by trip. Right now, one trip runs over into the next. So, I go to the menu, there would be ‘Summer trip 2016’ and ‘Summer trip 2019’ to choose from. The beginning of latest blog would also be on the home page, but if you go to that blog page, it would display them from oldest (at top) to newest (on bottom). How can I do this (with the free plan)?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

There are 2 parts to your solution.
The first is to use Categories to group together the posts for each road trip.
This will give you an identifier to then make a menu link to all the posts in each road trip category. This article tells you all about how to do it..
Pay special attention to category pages and menus. As to the arrangement of displaying the posts for the current trip, do I understand that you want the oldest listed first? Remember regular followers may be most interested in what you are doing now…
But regardless – WordPress has a way for you to display your posts on a page using a shortcode…
read about the display posts shortcodeIt will allow you to display a specific category (like your current trip) and display them in whichever order you want … you can include only an excerpt or the whole post…
Post back with any questions….

Hi lolasadventureblog,
I use the site to blog about road trips I take. So, I would like to have my blog posts separated by trip. Right now, one trip runs over into the next. So, I go to the menu, there would be ‘Summer trip 2016’ and ‘Summer trip 2019’ to choose from.
Currently, On your site, there are two menu items for the blog
- Blog post: The page displays all blogs (from 2019 and 2016)
- 2019 SUMMER ROAD TRIP!: This page displays no blog post
As per your requirements, you want to create two menu items. Summer trip 2016 and Summer trip 2019
I would recommend creating categories like 2016 and 2019. Assign these categories to the respective blog post.
Create menu items based upon categories. So this way when you click on a category menu item, the page displays post related to that category only.
The beginning of latest blog would also be on the home page, but if you go to that blog page, it would display them from oldest (at top) to newest (on bottom)
This is good link for displaying blog post in chronological order.

Hi. I understand what you are saying about the categories.
And I am trying to follow that support link regarding that, and it all seems to be ok, until I get to the customizing the menu part, which seems does not give me categories to choose. I have the categories created.. it just does drop down to give me a choice. Not sure what to do here.

Hello,
My apologies. Since I last messaged, I think I figured part of it out.
If you look at my page, https://lolasadventureblog.wordpress.com/
You will see the two categories in the menu.
I was hoping to have one link in the menu, which would take it to a page with a sub-menu based on the categories.

To create a menu item that is not clickable but will contain sub-menu items, add a Custom Link menu item and add the # symbol in the URL field.

Then you can add sub menu items by dragging categories based menu items to this unclickable menu items.
To know more about custom menu.
